Not sure what you mean by width exactly but here goes (this is eye-balling with a ruler and keep in mind I grew up on metric):
If referring to width when closed from top of blade spine to back of handle (where lock release is - approx 1 3/8" or 35mm.
If referring to thickness of handle - approx 5/16" or 9mm.

I don't recall what size you mentioned (if you did at all) but based on the front pockets of my wife's jeans (she's petite) may I suggest a Ladybug. Lots of knife in a small package.
 
Received the Dragonfly Tattoo suggested by Brad Greulich and could not be happier with it. It is exactly what I wanted for my daughter. Liked it so much I ordered another one for my wife!

Awesome! It really is a great pocket EDC knife. Tough as heck and feels like a much bigger knife than it is.

+1 on the Tactical pink Izula, failing that the Benchmade Benchmite is an awesome knife for the price. Got both for the GF for her birthday about 6 months ago, now she doesnt go anywhere without one or the other.
 
In my experience women love the crkt K.I.S.S and the H.U.G.

My fiancee says the same thing all the time unless shes got a jacket on she never carries anything but that darn K.I.S.S i got her.
 
The SS dragonfly looks like a great little knife for ladies to carry. Glad your family likes them!

I came here to suggest the spyderco cat and chicago. They're so darn cute :D
