Giganto, the Real King Kong. Search for America's Great Ape.

I believe. I also think these type of stories become legendary and get distorted. I wouldn't be suprised if it was much smaller than people report. For example. It is easy to misinterpret the size of a person by his silouette on your tent. Also. I think todays woodsmen have a very low skill level compared to our forefathers. Especially ndn forefathers. If they say there was one I believe.

My old neighbor swore up and down that he was being cased by a bigfoot while hunting in the heavy woods his family owns. He never got a look at the animal but it was big and tore through the brush when he spotted where it was spying on him. it didn't leave a print so much as wide indentation in the muddy moss by the tree. The guy was in his 40's when he told me this story. It had happened to him probably 20 years before. He's an avid hunter, but his son and daughter told me that they never go to the tract of land. The game there would have to be better than the slimmer pickings they could have gotten from my old neighborhood. Story or not, whatever it was keeps a full grown and armed man from family land tracts for some reason.
I have seen my share of the outter fringe. I have seen things in the dead of night that I have no idea what they were. I have seen eyes that look back from the blackness of the woods that glow orange and come forward. Not with an up and down gate like an animal, but side to side and bipedal. I have cowared in my tent while things moved outside, have had an extension cord unplugged on me. Not moved, nor tripped over, nor altered by foot of man or beast. simply unplugged. I have found that woods need to be neither deep nor dark nor ancient to harbor odd things. Weird things out on the edge of the periphia. Real or not, such things make this world a magical place.

Tell us about the campsite...filled with bone shards and torn fabric? Spanish helmets? Leg bones of monstrous proportion?

Nothing quite so spectacular. Just a little spot off a very disused Forest Service road, fairly difficult to find, nestled in a valley between two wonderful mountains with a river nearby and beautiful woods all around. It's almost accessible by vehicle if you know the way but the passes are pretty nasty right now (we barely made it through in an H2) so I'm not planning on returning until the summer. I'll remember the way.

No sign of Bigfoot or Mongolian Death Worms, but I've never had a problem with uneventful camping trips. It's the weird noises, glowing eyes, screams, voices, UXO, campfires in completely inaccessible areas, and all the other stuff that make for memorable, but not always relaxing, trips in the woods.

The woods can spook even an experienced person out. Especially strange new woods. Screech owls are damn scary when unexpected even if you've heard them before and know what it sounds like. A cougar sounds scary as hell too. As a kid I was chased up a tree by a boar. He made god awful noises. And laid down under that tree and waited for a while before moving on. A deer snorting at you in the dark will scare the living hell out of you too. As I said...I'm a believer, but I think many of the stories are BS. Its just fun to tell tales from the woods. See Satori's doe confrontation story. LOL.:D

Dave,

It sounds like heaven. With my luck in the summer it would be full of mosquitos and chiggers. Which would suck.

Hello everyone , I tend to keep an open mind about such things. While I certainly have not seen proof of such a creature it is too easy to discredit by automatic gainsaying as well . There was disbelief concerning gorillas until proof was forthcoming .
Have their been hoaxes ? Do people enjoy playing hoaxes ? I do not even have to answer that one .
Have their been discoveries of animals said not to exist ? Has that changed peoples minds as to remain open minded ? Again I need not answer .
