Giraffe Bone??

Okay....giraffe bone os bad. But 'splain this one to me, Lucy. What is the fascination with that particularly nasty fossilized walrus "bone" that you see on knives?!?!?!

Can't help you there. That's another material that resides toward the bottom of my list. I've seen some that look really good - but I am more than likely to pass.

I'm pretty sure this is giraffe bone and it's definitely the type of dye job that helped give it a negative reputation! My son (who was 9 or 10 at the time) saw this at the BLADE show in 2003 and just had to have it. He cleaned out his room this weekend and I found it in a box of stuff he didn't want any more.

That could be waterbuck also, That sure is some beautiful stuff, I just don't understand Les's dislike. :foot::D:D:D

I have a dislike for GB after only using it twice. The first one cracked from just drilling and had to be tossed and this is the second one. I left it on the knife but always thought it was a mistake.

If anybody here has this one I will replace it with mammoth free of charge. Just email me. It was bought a few years ago from Bladegallery and I never found out who owns it. BTW that really is brass so dont give me chit about it :)

Bill - Based on it's size (10 1/4 in.) I bet you're right. It's fairly heavy too, probably because it's been soaked in some kind of plastic polymer stuff. Right now it's serving as a paper weight on my desk - not sure what else to do with it.

I have a couple in Giraffe bone. I like the look of the stuff when it's dyed the way I like it. Anyone who doesn't care for it might want to take a look at the knife at the back of this month's Blade magazine. I'd buy it. I passed on a pink handled one a few days ago. Nice knife but ...pink?

Hmmm...the image isn't a close-up, but that sort of looks more like mammoth tooth than GB?

Giraffe bone when dyed properly has a very unique look, I personally like it when done like this...but then I use my knives so I'm not looking at it's future investment value..
