Girlfriend wants to choose me a folding knife and she wants your help

Dude. I have to say first off, that I disagree with this whole "let the girlfriend decide what the final 'pretty' knife is"
Its a terrible idea -despite your explanation. The point of having a collection is freedom of choice. You should be able to have as many knives as you please because its your hobby.

But don't take my relationship advice.
That being said, if I absolutely had to choose the last knife I would ever receive, I would increase the price limit to $400 and make it a large Chris Reeve Sebenza.
Im sure you can find an endless supply of valid justifications for the additional $100.

I made that post more out of amusement than anything as me and my girlfriend are laughing over the notions of what I wrote up knowing that people will not really see it as a joke (the internet being the way it is). I'm going to forever collect knives and hell make my own when the time comes! I love doing things the non-traditional controversial way. That's just me.

But for right now, she's going to gift me a knife under 300 dollars and who am I to say no to that? Thanks for your concern tho. It's appreciated. :)

Let me see if I get this right:

I can change the skin of any of the ZT Knives I buy? Where can I get the different colored skins?

What is the knife sitting on the rock with the wood box thing in the background? I love it! Sorry to intrude.

no one has seamed to mention the ZT 0551/0550.
they are similar to the 0560 but more stout and beefy, i never owned one but i hear great things about them.

I did ;)

Hinderer makers replacement scales for the 0550 and 0551. You can get them from Hinderer or Monkey Edge. Pretty sure they're going to do scales for the 0560 too. You can also have someone make you scales for whatever knife you want...

Three sister's forge Beast.

On the thread subject, you could wait for the Benchmade Contego or that new Spyderco/Southard collaboration flipper. If autos are legal, she might think the Kershaw Breakout is pretty in one of the non-black colors. I think you'd enjoy ZTs, but idk what the girl thinks. Top reccomendation from me, other than the spyderco flipper, is going to be the ZT 0560

Second the HTM Gun Hammer suggestion. Go for one of the copper handled ones from TNK, if you can find one.

I carry this one to the exclusion of every other folding knife. Darrel really does amazing work.

Why don't you choose a knife that you want on your own terms? If you want a specific knife and you end up getting something based upon a list or someone else's wants, you won't be happy and it will be a waste of that precious money.

HEST 2 folder. Under 200 and a knife to me that has been excellent. It isn't the longest but it is pocketable, thought, thick, good lock, and the grind is one of my favorites.

Cool GF, nice budget.

If you have to have only 1 blade, what about the Manix 2 or the Combative Edge M1. The ZT 0560/561 is also a really nice choice.

If you want more of a slicer, I really recommend the Military, in a sprint steel if you can find one for a reasonable price.

GL with your search!

Because stop and think about it, it means my girlfriend is now involved with my passion for sharp objects so why should I complain? Plus having people's advices and inputs can sway her thoughts toward a knife that I potentially want. Besides, I personally don't know what will be best for me. Not like I have a knife shop that has all that's listed here in their inventory for me to look around and handle to see which I want.

I know what I want in fixed blade knives but for folders, eh...you guys know more than I do.

I'd be pretty stoked if my significant other were to buy me a $300 knife.

Definitely make sure it's something that you REALLY want though. One thing I've found is that other people's opinions only go so far. If the knife doesn't call to you, it won't satisfy you. Certainly won't if it's the only one you're allowed to have. I don't care how popular it is. If YOU don't like everything about it, you won't be happy with it.

I promise to subtly have the final say. :p

On plus side, she's gone all "Oh my gosh!" over Bacustomknives creations and now wants one, kind of ignoring the fact that she was to "pick" me a folder. So that's to my benefit. *Mischievous grin*

I have only 2 folders in my puny collection that are reasonably strong and long enough that might fit the OP's requirements. These two are made in Japan, if country of origin matters.

1. Al Mar Shrike

2. Fallkniven PXL maroon micarta

Hope this helps.

Well, it's a strange thread and you've had a lot of super recommendations. Good luck in your choice.
