Girlfriend wants to choose me a folding knife and she wants your help

I'd go with a ZT0551 - the one I played with a month ago still haunts me.
I haven't got the chance to try a 0560/0561, though.
Good luck! I haven't spent over $200 on a knife yet, and all my wife can say is "you got another one!?!"

I really like the ZT's also. 0550/0551, 0301, or 0560. Already mentioned here.

Another I would suggest, and they are somewhat hard to find, would be a Lone Wolf T2 Harsey. Great knife. Not as overbuilt as the ZT's but plenty strong.

wow, does she want me to come over and bang her too? what kinda man are you that you...

1: need anyone inputs but yours to make up the mind of your GF and 2: cant afford your own knife.

you had really better watch out cuz I'd bet any guy could take your GF away from of you if they wanted since you don't seem to have a backbone of your own and you need other guys to help make up your GF's mind hahaha! Eh, perhaps you like being cuckolded. who am i to judge.

My girlfriend got sick of seeing me surfing all of the neat and wondrous folding knives out there while I day dream on having one of them some day...so she said she will buy me a knife under $300 on a few conditions:

1. She must approve of the knife and the knife's wow factor in looks. "It must have fashion!"
2. I must not buy any future folding knives or other knives except Himalayan Imports or very specific fixed blade knives such as Swamp Rat RMD LE or any "Wow" fashion (practical ~Wolf) custom knives (edit: It's a joke for those of you that are sensitive ;))
3. Must be under $300

Here's my criteria since choosing the knives will in the end be out of my hands so hopefully some of the criteria will exist in the knife she chose for me. :p

Here's what I would like it to have:

1. It must be rugged and durable knife
2. Be able to handle all sorts of environments from the Rocky Mountains to Minnesota's many weather to the swamp land of Florida to many places.
3. I like it beefy and big but not required. Weight is not an issue for me.
4. I don't mind it being long and slender or thick and beefy, but I want it to be tough enough to act as an emergency pry bar if need be.
5. Don't want the knife to be tiny so much that I have to raise my pinkie just to hold the knife. :p

I'm probably overlooking some criteria but I fully intend to make a user out of this knife and have it do as many functions as I can use with it (cue in the Swiss Army Knife joke here).

I wouldn't mind a ZT quality knife and above.

Lets see if there's a knife that will give my girlfriend a "Oooh pretty!" wow factor and be ruggedly loyal to me for years to come. Is there such a knife out there?

Edit:
P.s. Please include pictures of the suggested knives as my girlfriend will be viewing this thread. Thank you! :p

Hey hey I think the O.P. and his G.F. are sweet. its not really that big of a deal the G.F. is actually getting into the collecting part, that's allot better than all the threads we see about "Wife is going to kill me" or "do you guys hide the boxes from wife/G.F."

I vote increasing the price a bit and getting a used Chris Reeve Large Sebenza - or finding a used Chris Reeve Small Sebenza for under $300.

I have a ZT0550, and I absolutely love it, but the CRK is by far my favorite knife. This includes build quality, aesthetics, etc.

Lionsteel Sr1 meets all our criteria. Big, solid, stylish (colors, Italian made), and less than 300.

Probably trolling, probably not but I will answer never the less. ;)

1. I've already spend about $900 on fixed blade knives in the last 3 months
2. I work in the psychology field so this whole thing is an amusing show watching guys like you make such comments as you have.
3. I love trying new approaches in making people think because in the process, I also learn new ways to think and see things based on others views mixed with my view
4. And last, speaking of backbone, I've slept in the Badlands in a tent in the middle of no where during a tornado night (the tornado being less than 1 mile away) with a lady, gone Kayaking around Apostle islands as well as ocean kayaking in Washington state, saved a guy from the frozen Mississippi river, went off road with a rental RV visiting abandoned farm steads across Montana and many more but I don't advertise it unless folks like you, Mister Eccvets, comes along. :)

This whole thread has been very educational and fun to be in and I very much appreciate what I've gotten in return after creating such "strange" thread. The insights and perspectives has been delightfully strong and candid which is exactly how I like interactions to be. :p

Best regards,
Wolf

I am a recent owner of a gayle bradley and freakin love this knife. The only problem it may pose for you is that the blade is not stainless. With simple upkeep the blade shouldn't rust.

Custom Buck 110/Para2 I would never use a folder for a pry bar, just saying.

The Gunhammer or the Gayle Bradley would be my choices. Classy, well made and will get the job done.

Girlfriend: "None of them has wow'ed me yet"
Me: "Want me to tell them that?"
Girlfriend: "Yes, tell them that...wait no, don't. Don't want to hurt their feelings. They're guys, you know."

That made me be quite amused and made me more aware about the fact that the designs of those knives that I am looking for are catered not to any fashion sense but to a very utilitarian approach with a dash of visual manly flair added for extra measure. And that's perfectly fine with me. *Grins at the departing girlfriend's back*

So far here are the ones I like:

HTM GunHammer
ZT 0560/0561
ZT 0550/0551
Spyderco Tuff

Might be missing a few but those are at the top of the list as of this posting. I really am having a hard time trying to discern the differences between the 0550 and the 0560 other than the slight blade design differences. Could someone that has experienced both let me know the differences between the two?

I would go with the Spyderco Gayle Bradley. It looks good, but it's a very strong, durable folder at the same time. Should be perfect. Or maybe the Spyderco Sage 4? I think the wood adds nice character to the blade.

The 0560 is larger and lighter than the 0550 with machined scales. It also has a flipper and KVT (kershaw velocity technology) which facilitates very smooth opening and closing. The blade of the 0560/1 is also made out of Elmax steel as opposed to the s35vn on the 0550.

You might be able to find a tilt on the exchange for $300 if you're lucky.

Well...A nice twist of fate/change. She wants me to buy a Busse knife instead so I will settle for a lesser ZT version such as 0300 or something. Will see how the week pans out!

Red,
You are correct on the titanium sr1, they are about 400, but and aluminum is about 230.

It's a great price, but I imagine they are scarce. I've been wanting one for a year, but haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. I have not found them that low.

I guess I had you figured out somewhat earlier... You like to use "helpful" simple folk like us for your psycho experiments. Perhaps you'll benefit from using us to "learn new ways to think." Please go away...a long ways away.
I guess I'll just lump you in with lawyers and politicians as my favorite types to stay away from.
