Give it up for the IBBB

Ill just start with this, I love khukuris, parangs and bowie knives. I may be in deep with a combined case of the HIKV and Bowie fever, no joke. My collection is in flight. When my micro bowie, AKA the IBBB arrived last week the anticipation was up there. It had survived the DOTD shark attack and I was able to snatch it up a few days later.

I always want to "knife out" as I call it, sharpen & clean,,, it is sad when the time comes to put them all away, and that's what I am loving about the IBBB, it goes right on with me like my iphone! Lately I have been sneaking it on our dog walks and it's just a blast to know I am carrying HI steel :) as well as the extra edge of protection. It's primal instinct, fact. I am finding so many uses for this blade and as said of the Padam Suga knife, I too believe everyone should have an IBBB. I am not sure if other Kami's then Bhakkta are making them currently but his work (like the rest) is consistent and superb.

Specs on my IBBB:
8 3/4" long
3/16-1/4" spine
4 1/4" handle of black and grey horn
9oz.

Bawanna,, hats off to you for the great idea of making an awesome little blade from an awesome big blade.

yeah I really prefer horn because of the so called "flaws" i know people look for solid black or what not but I really like it when it has a "grain" almost like wood, gives it character just like you say. Love the ak bowie with horn scales, I have the same!

it was listed as black and grey horn handle but it was hard to see any marbling. When it arrived I was happy when I saw the top,, nice grain-age! My medium and "hefty" bowies are wood handled but
just by pick of the draw,, im into the little guy being the black sheep! Please don't tell me there's one out there with an deer antler handle!

That handle is gorgeous. Far as the deer antler handle, I don't think there is one now but I can assure you there will be one soon.
I felt exactly the same way when mine arrived. It's with me always.

Hopefully if all goes according to plan, there will be deer antlers in the not so distant future...:)

Very nice Bowie, I am a huge fan of the horn with color in it, if you give it a mineral oil soak for like a day or so you will most likely see more color come through, most times the horn is dry and should be re hydrated, the mineral oil is the trick, give it a whirl and I bet you will love it even more.

That is one gorgeous Bowie! I love all those grey and white streaks that give it its own fingerprint and make it yours. Mine is wood and I love it but that horn is awesome. Great pics btw! I think I saw you on a stretcher in Atlanta right in front of the CDC decontamination unit. They dont know there is no cure for HIKV and it dont wash off even in salt water:D Enjoy your new blades man and keep us updated as they arrive!

That's a great looking blade. Just the type of blade id like to pass down to my nephew. Ill have to keep an eye out for one of those.

Thanks PK... :) With photos I am always looking for that spine shot to go along with the profile. To me it's the money shot and really (along with profile shot) gives you a great idea of what the blade is all about. I am product photographer by trade so I am looking at the sell-able features something has. These forum pics are just quick easy ones from my backyard,,, I do like shooting and showing my blades. I was sold when I saw the top spine pics of other IBBBs same with the Suga knife.
PUGS,,, are you recommending me submerge the whole handle in mineral oil or maybe just a good rub down? I am using Wisconsin Hardwoods wood oil which is basically 100% pure mineral oil on my wooden handles but I will use for my Chiruwa and the IBBB today. I have lightly wiped them with oil but no real soak. Sir I am also going to take accurate measurements on my bowie family (all 3 now!) and send to you for new winter coats for them!

you guys rule!

Cut out an old water bottle or whatever and give it a complete submersion soak for at least a day and pull it wipe it well and you should see some more color coming through, sometimes very slight hints of green, gray and white depending on the horn, looking at yours it might be just the ticket. I actually do my horn and wood handles when new in just plain mineral oil from my local pharmacy very inexpensive and works wonders, and wont harm the material at all.

I am also going to need some advice on buffing out scuffs and scratches... looks like my horn handle was chaffed by the button snap on the sheath, it also has a sizeable gash in the side... nothing that makes me want to send back but maybe something that needs attention down the road. I was just kind of hoping that I could have someone epoxy and rebuff it when I'm getting my Bowie family outfitted. Minor stuff but all good in the light of learning to take care of my own blades. I'm just not that great at the finite repair skills that others are.

Just get some sandpaper. Depending how bad the scratch is start with like 220, 320 and maybe 400 to finish. The 400 mostly just finishes up the pins nice again after the sanding.
The horn sands up really nice and then with the mineral oil dunk you be good or better than new.

When I checker those IBBB handles I sand em down first mostly to get the pins down flush with the wood or horn. Not as concerned with the smoothness since they will be checkered anyhow but nice to have a nice even surface to start.

I have 3 all horn on the bench this morning awaiting the checkering tool and that's where I'm headed as soon as I'm finished checking in with my pals here. Frankly it's gonna be dang hard to send them back when I'm done. We got a poppa bear, a momma bear and a baby bear and they all love me. Poppa bear is just a beast, I love him and of course the original IBBB in mint condition just wows me.

PS- If you go with Pugs attire (highly recommended) the best scenario and often times the only scenario is to send him your knife. He's not too good reading a measuring stick, I think he still uses the squirrel method. It's worth it to send them since you'll then get the perfect fit. I'm not a Pugs employee and I don't play one on TV but I know this to be true.

yeah I am proud of that set bawanna, can't thank you enough for the work you are doing on them, I know you will love that ww2 forever :D

I didn't know if you wanted that info out of the sack or not so I tried to keep clam.

Now I'll try to post some pictures as we go along. I'll start another thread or something so I'm not muddying up this one.

I do love that WWII very much but I've got major reservations on weather the checkering work is worth that beautiful thing. It does take some time but my time is usually cheap ya know. I don't figure I'll be able to send it back anyhow, guess we'll call it ransom or something.
I'll post some pics of that too.

looks like a dipping session is in order for the weekend! Hyped just to know the method of really treating the handles. I'm definitely not one to scoff at the "imperfections" of a hand made item, it is a lot of what I like really,, organic.
My edge work can get better for sure but now i seem to have a grip on-the grip,, if you know what Im sayin! Thanks for all the feedback, learning from a motley bunch of the best here...
