Give it up for the IBBB

Its important that you cut the top of the bottle off just right. Also helps if you fill about a dozen of them with water and place them on a stump and whack them off with a long blade:D A 20 or 25" Siru works great for that:thumbup: Enjoy!

I do have same little scar on it, I think it is just the horn natural scratches. Anyone who will have advanced method to fix it! Please free to send us a solution.

I am also going to need some advice on buffing out scuffs and scratches... looks like my horn handle was chaffed by the button snap on the sheath, it also has a sizeable gash in the side... nothing that makes me want to send back but maybe something that needs attention down the road. I was just kind of hoping that I could have someone epoxy and rebuff it when I'm getting my Bowie family outfitted. Minor stuff but all good in the light of learning to take care of my own blades. I'm just not that great at the finite repair skills that others are.

The crack could be filled with black epoxy and re-buffed, no problem. I wouldn't even bother trying to fill the small scrape in the second photo. Looks like it will buff right out.

Phill, what kind of epoxy would you recommend? I was thinking the same. Are you using a buffing wheel?

Yeah any sort of buffing wheel will do. I like marine epoxy because it's more flexible.

OK, thanks for the input Phill. From your experience, would you wait to dunk it in mineral oil until the blemish was filled? I do not think it is actually cracked as much as scraped. Getting both sides back to luster would be awesome.

well inevitably it looks like I am going to have to move some surfboards around in my man-cave / surf shack for a little blade smithing station :)

Also marine grade epoxy is usually white or gray-ish, but you can add a drop of black ink or something similar to dye it.

well considering how much I like this little guy I will probably send it to someone to refinish it for me. In a month or so. I need to get new sheaths made by Pugs first I think,, sticking to my schedule! In my mind I am like 3 knives out...
thanks again all for the input.

Oh man Gehazi,, I know you know,,, it's rough brother! I saw that RajKumar Indonesian Sword, or Parang and had the same reaction you did. Had to put the ol' air brakes on the thought of starting to search for one. I am going to take your advice, thank you

lol when raj kumar gets back we can all have one ! I am definitely putting one on order when he is in action again :D

You might want to address your handles first before Pugs. His sheaths fit like a proverbial glove and if you rehandle afterwards they will have to shape the handle to fit his sheath, might be better to make the handle how ya want and then put some pants on it.
I just cut an Elk antler shed in the middle. Straightening my neck and uncrossing my eyes from bowie checkering all day.
I just don't know if I can pull the handle off my beloved IBBB. Love it as is but I do love stag too.
I was gonna get me one with no handle from the get go but I'm broke and impatient.

What say yall? DO IT, be a man! or your out of your mind, leave it perfect the way it is?........................

No rush, you have two minutes.

You gotta post a before pic then you can start the clock! Thats a hard one for you it must be. For mine no way would I replace it cause its checkered by the finest! If you replace yours you might have to have Pugs adjust your sheath ya know;) I know if they come out with the short handle ones again ill get me another! I wonder if you could use them corby (?) bolts or something that you could swap them out when you want.

Bawanna, I do like that pimped out handle in one of the past threads but I am already smitten with this one, really do not want to change it, other then smooth it out. Purist here! Believe me, the thought of checkering this handle has crossed my mind.
I would be very interested to see that Elk antler if you went for it but as they say,, 6 in one hand half dozen in the other. I think when it comes Bowie fever your doomed either way :)
