Nope. Great knives IMO. People love or hate the scales. I dont mind them . But you will have to decide that for yourself. Maybe try finding one in a store ? Bass pro, cabelas, surplus stores, REI all have them around where i live. good luck.

It is a major challenge to disassemble and reassemble relative to a normal frame or liner lock.

Oh, and the knife is terribly addictive, and you will want another, and probably some custom scales for it. It is not good for your wallet.

I can only come up with one: The detent is not overly strong, so there is a tiny chance it might come open under unusual circumstances (like when it's dropped or shaken).

I have three Minis. They are great knives and the good far outweighs the bad, I think.

I decided not to buy a mini-grip since I actually wanted a 707 Sequel. I preferred its looks although it's probably not as functional for hard use.
So the 707 turned out to be my first expensive folder and I've been carrying a 707 since 2009 (that's when the expensive stuff started for me..)
If you actually dreaming about something else, I'd recommend to think about waiting a little longer ;)

@ detent: I carry the 707 (tip-up) IWB @ 1 'o clock - it has never even started to open but I trust an AXIS lock more than I would trust the detent ball of a liner or frame lock since the AXIS lock will draw the blade back in. Once the blade got out of the detent hole on a frame lock, there's no force pulling back.. And whenever I drop a closed knife I can tolerate it to open... It was my fault in the 1st place (why did I drop it?)

Though I love the full size grips, I did find a reason not to get the mini when I checked out the Presidio 527 Mini Ultra. To me, it was what I wanted the mini grip to be at around the same cost. A tad bigger and heavier, but I have found it to be a little workhorse with little maintenance.
I am lucky enough to live within a small drive to good dealer, so I get to handle a lot of the knives I buy. I have made many trips with a knife in mind, and have returned with something different on many occasions.
That being said, nothing wrong with the mini grips, just make sure it fits your needs.
Cheers

Terrific knives for the price IMO. Come in all colors, blade configs, steels, blade shapes, grinds, 2 different opening method options, and several limited edition versions. It's a cult knife, kind of like the Spyderco Delica and Kershaw Leek: relatively affordable with tons of different options. My one and only suggestion is you get a subdued color for the handle; the brighter colored handles reveal dirt and grime more easily. But if you can live with that, go for it.

My least favorite thing about a mg Is that at the back of the knife blade there is a dull notch. If you are cutting rope and not paying attaching you can catch the rope on that notch and not cut anything.

i'll be heading out tomorrow or the day after to actually handle one so i'll look for a few of the things that were mentioned here to see if i like it or not.

Don't have a bad thing to say about it. Super tough little knife, much more hand positive than and Endura....and the locking mechanism has no plastic parts. Always have abused it, never been let down. Easy enough to take apart and clean. YouTube can always bail you out if you get stuck.

That notch is actually a sharpening choil. It allows you to easily sharpen all of the edge all the way to the heel.

because you can buy one of the bone collector axis for around the same price g10 or walnut and a d2 blade

A blue mini grip was my first high end knife. So it there is any thing bad about it. I'd say it will lead to multiple more expensive purchases. It still sees lots of pocket time and the action is buttery smooth now.

I like mine. I could agree on the scales. If it was G10 I'd want to marry it. Great edc my first big knife purchase lol.

The only reason to not buy a mini grip is of you have large hands and don't like small knives, maybe if you're a handle material snob.

The rehashed gripes around Grips are the handle materials making noise when you open or close the knife.

There's nothing wrong with a mini-Griptilian. I EDC one every day along with a traditional slip joint. They are tough knives and can handle most everyday tasks that come up. I've got four of them and have no complaints with any of them.

That Case Trapper in the picture is 4 1/8" closed with a 3 1/4" blade. Using the Trapper as a scale, you can see the mini-Griptilian is no small knife.
