I bought it because it's a Robeson, and because it's ebony. It's a Robeson all right, 1922-39. It can't be ebony, though, can it, the way it's cracked across the "grain". Anyway, someone cared enough about it to scratch his name in the handle, so I'll look after it for him.

Looks like OSB (Oriented strand board), a product used in furniture, roof decking, subflooring, shelving, sheathing, and apparently knife covers.

Thanks for the info guys. I have always wondered how the epoxy repair was done. I have seen some work so well done it was difficult to see at first glance.

Nothing sexy about this Schrade Cut Co., but I loved the ebony and the bolsters.
