About the knife: I purchased two of these from Ron Ryder about 4 years ago. I stashed this one and used the other one until my cousin talked me out of it about a year ago. I can tell you from using its twin that it is a fine little cutting tool and all around EDC. The knife has never been used or sharpened. It has been handled a bit over the years and needs to be sharpened and used. That's where y'all come in. :)

She has premium Stag and Eye Brand's High Carbon German steel by Carl Schlieper. I will tell you right off the bat that this knife will take on a very pretty patina right from the get-go when put to use. 3 5/8's in the closed position. And built like the old days using one back-spring, instead of two like you see produced by most of the makers these days. The master spear blade has a nice artwork design in a gold leaf etch of a wild life mountain seen with a pair of Elk in the forest.

Rules for the contest:

><> Anyone can enter. No restrictions.

><> Your post # number is your entry number. No double posting, please.

><> I will run the contest until late New Years evening (USA-EST) and choose the winner at random sometime New Years Day.

><> The one requirement I ask of everyone is that you write something in your post like a poem, epitaph, your new years resolution, famous quote or infamous quote, post a picture of where you live, so on and so forth.. Use your imagination, but please keep it G or PG rated cause this is a family show.. :D Use your imagination. It can be fancy or plain, I just wanted to kinda make it a little more interesting this time.

-- HAVE FUN & GOOD LUCK --

My favorite poem:
[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

--Rudyard Kipling
and a pretty picture...

Very GA! I would like to put my favorite poem here.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

I am the Man of the house, I make all the decisions,, the first one I made 45 years ago with my current spouse was to let her make all the decisions, best decision I ever made. :D

BTW: Thanks for the contest Tony

This is the view I see from my computer desk...and it inspired the poem that follows...

nov30snow.jpg

As I slept last night the snow fell down,
covering the ground with nary a sound,
draping the trees, the shrubs, and vines,
encasing the world in a bright white shrine.

Now flashes of color show against the white,
the blue of a Jay streaks by in flight,
A Cardinal's red coat catches my eye,
streaking across a colorless sky.

The view from my window warms my heart
a winter wonderland emerging from the dark.
The world regally wears nature's fair cloak
this is what met me when this morning I woke.

My favorite Quote,
" I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives.
I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him"

Abraham Lincoln

Thank You for the chance:thumbup:
Happy New Year!

Thats a beauty Anthony... I can't pass up a chance for this one.
I think you know from our conversations, I have a soft spot for Elk. The etching of the Elk on the blade and the Stag are a great combination..
So in keeping with the Elk theme, I thought I would post this picture. It was taken at a ranch about 30 mile from our house....

This is a very generous, and inspiring thread, Anthony!!

Living in the temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest, we seldom see extremes of temperature. Low 80s in the summer, low 40s in the winter, every thing else is 50s to 70s. Drizzle and light to medium rain is common enough. This year I got to celebrate my Northeastern roots! First white Christmas in 10 years, and more than a foot MORE snow than the last time. These pics are about halfway through the storms, and a day before Christmas!

And, here's a picture looking out my front window! The apple tree is bearing up well! My off-road Pickup is a blessing this year (not shown).

The quote I like is
"Dream like you will live forever, Live like you will Die Tomorrow."

Happy New Year.

Here is a poem for those of us who see the world differently than the majority does.

“Much madness is divinest sense
To a discerning eye.
Much sense the starkest madness;
‘T is the majority
In this, as all prevails.
Assent and you are sane ---
Demur --- you’re straightway dangerous
And handled with a chain.”

"Who has not learned more about themselves by watching the activities of others?"
-Miyamoto Musashi, Book of Five Rings

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

First of all, thanks a lot for this present.
An interesting quote from a rather unknown Spanish writer, Baltasar Gracián:
"Never argue with a stupid man: he will force you to go down to his place, and then he will smash you with his experience"
Regards.

Great give-away...

I will share one that was read at a friends' step sons funeral , I had never heard it till then.
But it makes you stop and reflect.

The Dash By Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth
and spoke of the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth...
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
the cars....the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left
that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real,
and always try to understand
the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile...
remembering that this special dash
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy is being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be proud of the things they
say about how you spend your dash?
