Giveaway finished!!!! Two winners!

I had a lot of fun posting and reading the guesses.
Some of y'all should probably write for Dr. Seuss.
Making things from odd items sometimes blesses.
Some day I will ride upon the back of a moose.

zzyzzogeton please email me sir.
I need your address or pasture post box number.
It's probably planted not too far from mine.

Here's a few pictures of what an agarita looks like in case some of y'all haven't seen one.

This is a big one, over 8ft tall. If you were to fall into one it takes a while to pull all the leaves out of you.
Besides that it hurts for a while because the tips break off in your skin.
Not as bad as cat claw bush though...

This is an old picture. They are not in bloom right now.

What a large main trunk looks like after it has dried standing.

Scale blanks I cut from a root ball I dug a few months ago.
These ended up too short for the necker application so I had to use a large trunk piece.

I don't have any pictures of the berries.
They make good juice, jams, jellies, preserves, wine, flavoring for food and drink.

The young leaves can be eaten, they are tart and contain vitamin C, as do the berries.

The ground up root can be used as a stypsic. I know from personal experience.
While making the blanks I cut myself pretty good with a hacksaw.
I put some of the sawdust on it and it ceased bleeding post haste.
It has antiseptic qualities as well.

Agarita is a very interesting plant.
It's a total pain to work with from harvesting to finish, but I think it's worth it.

Thanks for the fun guessing game.
Does that stuff grow in Central Texas? I'll be looking out for it.

Austin. (where all the cool kids live);)

emails sent

by mapquest's first attempt, you're only 303.8 miles away. monkeying with the route because I can read a map, I got it down to 195.8 miles. dang near a day trip. 8-) But I gotta go through Austin before I cut cross country. moral of the story? don't trust mapquest's first try. :)

Prize patrol has been dispatched to the PO.

Please post up some pics of what you did with them when you get 'em...!

Got the prize today - a couple of nice pieces of agarita and an agarita wood bead. Thank you, Cicatriz.

Now I need to come up with a project for them. :D

Here's a pic of the pieces::

I've made a few beads now and I'll have to admit...

THEY'RE A PAIN IN THE REAR TO MAKE!

They do come out pretty nice though:thumbup:

very nice I'm still waiting on my package, probably wont be here till Monday though.

got the prize's in today, its a great addition to my key chain. I'm assuming its aluminum? oh and a beautiful wood piece, never seen a wood that yellow in person.

Thanks again

Yep, it's aluminum. A paracord dingly dangly hangs off there quite nicely.

That's a piece of agarita root. I thought about making it into a brooch of some sort but it makes a better prize.
Not even bois d'arc is that yellow, almost but not quite.
The grain in the root is different than the grain in the limb.

Hope everybody enjoyed the contest. I sure did:D
