Something old, something new(er)

Greetings traditional sub forum folksy folks. In this giveaway the winner can pick between a 2012 GEC 2012 “Northfield Burnt Stag Gambler,” or the J.A. Henckels cokebottle. Second-place is a copy of the book that is in my avatar.

The single spring GEC is 4 inches closed and unused, but does have a few blade rub marks. It comes with the tube.

The Henckels is over 5 ¼ long closed, has a very strong snap and probably dates to before World War I.

I’ll ship overseas as long as I get some guidance on how to do so. Rules: 200+ posts in the traditional sub forum, an original picture, one you haven’t posted here before, of some activity from this past summer. I’ll randomly pick the winners by post number on Thursday.

When I joined BF in 2001 there wasn’t a traditional forum. I’ve learned a lot and met some great people here over the years.

Thanks and good luck,

Mike

Great idea for a GAW Mike, and I'll post only because I am so struck by that Henckels beauty. If I am the lucky one I will give away a vintage knife of my own. Glad to have you on these here boards!
Here is what took up most of my free time this summer past (and happily so):

Wow, great knives and very different from each other. I normally stay away from the "slender" knives but that Gambler looks great!
This weekend my friend paddled my wife, his girlfriend, and I through the canals of Venice for a few hours until 1pm when we had to drop the ladies off and put the sail up for the Regatta:

And I posted this one elsewhere, but it tells the second part of the Story (our boat has the sun and bird on the sail inline with St. Mark's Campanile):

Hard to believe this has slipped to Page 2! Congratulations on the book Mike, this is a very generous giveaway, those are lovely knives, and the Henckels is an outstanding beast :)

I've had a pretty good summer, for once the weather hasn't been too bad here. On Sunday, I combined a walk in the Yorkshire countryside with a visit to a vintage vehicle rally, some great old motorbikes and cars there, as well as traction engines such as this one.

Good luck everyone.

Jack

Mike....Id love a chance at that big German....(good reading too !)...Wonderful giveaway sir..

Hi Mike
Wow...2001 - been here a while eh? Good on you, you should have one of the "original" patches!

If I could be in on this fantastic give-away - the Henckels looks too good to pass up a go at!
Thank you very much for this Mike, and good luck everyone!!!

Heres a lovely spot on one of our hikes....

Mike,
not an entry :) just wanted to thank you for your generosity and contribution to this subforum :)

Is a video okay as an entry?

Thanks for the chance!

Oh I'm in on this one! Thanks so much for the generous opportunity! We didn't get out to do a whole lot this summer due to it being our first summer with our daughter, but I'm proud of this photo:

This is the first time Julia got to come visit her dad at work! :D

Thanks again for the chance, Mike. I can't even imagine Bladeforums without a traditionals area!

I really like that GEC. I'm in. Here a shot from Watkins Glen NY.
View from our hotel room overlooking Seneca Lake.....but....what makes it special ( If you're a car guy/gal) is the Shelby Daytona Coupe in the foreground (blue car).
It is one of 10 made as a continuation to the original 6 racing coupes. Loud......VERY LOUD!

Thanks for all of the entries and thanks to those who have followed the rules. Some great pictures so far! I'm glad I don't have to pick the winner based on the pictures.

It didn't occur to me that I was offering two large knives in the give-away, so I'll add a smaller one to the mix. This Catt. balloon whittler shares DNA with the Case '83 whittler pattern, which I have always liked. While it is used, the tips of the blades are very crisp and the blades seem to be pretty full. So the winner can pick between the GEC, Henckels and this Catt.

Not an entry, since I'm too new (or don't have enough to say :)), but I wanted to thank Mike for his generosity in "hosting" this GAW. Great pictures so far! If I were eligible, I might actually be hoping for a second place finish, since that book (which vcm3 recommended in another thread) sounds fascinating. Good luck, everyone!

Fine GAW and your posts are always worthwhile. That Gambler or the Whittler set my pulse racing!

Not the most exciting picture, but for me it's significant. Summer is very short here in the Arctic and this Woodpecker parent worked furiously to feed a voracious brood in June.

Thanks to all, Will

Such a great idea for a give away. We took our son to Dickson Mounds for a Native American festival and one of the activities was learning to throw a spear. He had a blast.

Love that Henckels! It's too bad I haven't done anything but work since January. Here's a picture from my vacation to Disney World then, at the resort where we stayed, with my girl of 19 years.

I bought the Mad Hatter hat the first day when we arrived to record cold temperature, and wore it the whole time we were there. I had a lot of people taking pictures of me like I was one of the characters. :D

Mike,

Thanks for the wonderful giveaway. I'd like to enter, but put off the difficult decision of which knife to choose unless it becomes necessary. Great idea for the pictures. I always like to get to peek into the lives of other members to flush out who it is we spend our time with here. For my entry I'm submitting a picture of a hot air balloon festival that we took the kids to this July. They have all kinds of hot air balloons flying all over and then they come back at sunset and light them up for the audience by tyeing them down and blasting their burners.
