IN

I'm in! I've been wanting a Laguiole for a long time!

I ended up in the traditional forum because, well, I like the traditional knives a lot. They are what I grew up with, and they have a soul that can't be found in modern folders (although I have my share of those, too).

Knives have been a family passion...my grandfather was a knifeknut, and so is my father.

I'm in. What a nice give away! Love that ebony.
I would sporadically google search traditionals that I liked over the years and more often than not would be led here. I found it informative and the members both entertaining and enchanting with all the stories, rememberances and what have you. So I joined. Love traditionals and this forum is a living encyclopedia of the genre. Thanks everyone.

Wow, that is a beauty!

I landed here when I saw the first Case yellow Delrin Trapperlock and wanted more information. There was a thread or two in General, but the majority of info was right here in Traditionals, even though the Trapperlock is more modern than traditional per se.
After I started reading the threads, I went looking for my old Imperial Barlow that I begged off my dad when I was 8 years old. It was a little worse for the wear, having been carried through high school, with plenty of games of mumbly peg and the occasional carved initials where they shouldn't have been. I cleaned it up, bought the Trapperlock, read up more on Case, stumbled upon a couple of newer brands called GEC and Canal Street and here I am, a lot richer in knowledge and knives, and a lot poorer in dollars :D

Thank you for the opportunity, I'm in!
Griff

I'm in! Thanks a lot.

I originally got pretty darn into Spydercos when I was using folding knives for lots of furnishing work... eventually drifted over here and haven't looked back since!

I'm in what a beauty! thanks for the chance.
I was in a quest to find THE best edc knife to replace my beloved Tinker; was directed by unknown force to here, B/F. I'm still searching (at least that's what I tell myself).

Wow, thank you so much for your entires and sharing your stories! I'm enjoying reading each one of them!

I remember when I first got the knife pictured in the first post, I was so excited about it...I carried it every single day, in my back pocket with the blade in between the folds of my wallet, just like the man Tony Bose carries his backpocket knife.

When I started carrying the knife my friends all made fun of me..."Why do you need that thing??" "What are you gonna do with that??" and of course "Are you planning on shanking someone??"

Well I remember we were at a gathering with most of my friends and lo and behold someone needed a knife to cut a piece of paper to size...then someone needed a knife to cut up some limes for drinks...then someone needed a knife to cut a piece of string...then someone needed...they stopped laughing after that :D

I also remember the huge mess I made in my kitchen trying to use a japanese whetstone to sharpen the thing, it was decently sharp, but I got lucky...I had no idea what a burr was at the time!

And the first time I got it to be "shaving sharp" oh that was a glorious day!

im in ! i got into knives when i realized packaging was upgraded from cardboard to clam shell packages and i didint want to suffer from the agonizing hell known as "plastic packaging" anyway from that point on i realized how important knives were not only for utility sake but also for sentimental value soon. there after I was able to put aside all of the Hollywood chatter about the negative stigma of knives as many in our society deem them to be weapons and instruments of evil and i began to appreciate knives as tools which not only helped me out but also gave me an awesome hobby!

Thanks for the great giveaway and I'm most certainly in ;)

I'l keep my story as short as possible.

I've always been interested in pocket knives.
After some Herder Sodbusters I got from my Dad and Granddad and some odd pocketknives I got from my mom and dad from when they went on a trip I lost some of my interest when I got about 12 years of age.
From then I didn't carry a pocket knife until I had to do my mandatory army stint where we were issued with Victorinox Pioneers/Soldiers.

When I got out I kept carrying that Pioneer untill 2004 when the real crazyness began after a co worker showed my his CRKT M60 Tanto.
I didn't know at that time there were other knives than Sodbusters or SAK's (didn't have internet at the time)

After some search I came on the Spyderco forums and all hell broke loose LOL.
I collected about every fully serrated model they'd made and I was a happy (and broke lol) camper.

Then I lost my job unfortunately and I wasn't able to buy them rather expensive Spydies anymore.
On top of that our gouvernment had plans to ban all "easy to open" knives.

So having internet of my own now I decided to search for a cheaper (and more "legal") to keep on to my hobby.
That's how I came on this subforum and the whole "old school culture" started to speak to me because I have always loved old things.

So this is how I went from this:

to this:

I'm certainly in for this one thanks! The Lag is a big favourite of mine, so comfortable in use and very Traditional.

I got in here years ago just by random chance, Google. Early on I was given a knife by a member who doesn't post now, which was eye-openingly generous. I learned a lot and above all, because Trad knife enthusiasts are thin on the ground in general it enabled me to have contact with many enthusiasts around the world. The Trad forum has people from all walks of life and countries, a fine thing. Generosity is clear here, I've given a few knives and had some GAWs another one will happen after Christmas in the New Year.

Thanks, Will

I'm in.
I'm only 2 years into my knife addiction, even though I've owned many since I was a kid. I'm only now learning about knives and appreciate all the knowledge I've gained. I love the way the Lag looks. I read up a bit on the history of the company after seeing this giveaway. Thanks

Thanks for the giveaway. I'm in!

I found this forum by doing a little research on the internet, and drifted naturally toward the traditional spit and whittle corner because that's what I liked best.

I have stuck around because of the great people.

I am in thanks for the chance brother!

I've always liked knives since i was a young'n, (still am) I always had a buck 110 on me for skinning various animals, throwing it, digging with it, did everything with it. Dont know what happened but one day i found about spyderco, benchmade, and all the other good brands. Had a great collection. But one day i was looking through some of my papa's stuff and found this old case yeller 3 bladed stockman. Cleaned it up sharpened the blades and oiled it. After i found that knife i did not appreciate modern day folders any more, i carried that case knife for about 3 months and i sold every modern day folder i had, and now i only buy traditional's, I never looked back :P

I'm in, thanks for the chance.

I think my first knife was a SAK that my teacher took away in 1st grade (Mexico) because I was playing with it when I shouldn't have been. MacGyver was my hero at the time :D

When I turned 15 a friend of the family gave me a Laguiole with a corkscrew on the back (I don't think it's an original Laguiole though) but I didn't know anything about them until joining the forum and researching.

I'm in, thanks for the generous offer. I have been researching the forums on knives for only a short time but I have learned a lot. I have always been interested in knives but have not really appreciated them until I began following the forums.
People with knowledge choose knives and use knives carefully.

I'm in, thanks for the chance.

My father bought a couple of the Colonial figural barlows and jacks for me, with Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett and others. There are probably a couple buried deep on my fathers property. A couple years later, my neighbor gave me an old 7OT Cave Bear. I promptly snapped the tip, I was working outside during a bad snowstorm, feeding my fathers horses, and stuck the blade in a fence post, tip first, so my frozen fingers wouldn't have to leave their nice warm gloves again by opening the blade. I tried to shape the tip back, but it didn't happen. That 7OT was my do all knife, until it got too dull, and I realized that I couldn't sharpen for a darn. Let it sit for a long time, and started looking at other knives. Went the whole Bud K/Frost route. Saw in a magazine that Cold Steel had brought back the Remington lockback hunter, and it was called the Ozark Hunter. I had to have it, and ended up visiting here trying to find one.

I actually saved money before joining here. ;)...

I'm in. Got tired of resisting the urge to come here and see what was happening in the world of my first folders.

I´m in!

I always carried a knife with me in the past. Mostly german traditional pattern, but also some modern knives. Nothing fancy like GEC (on the one side) or Spyderco (on the other side).
I came snowed in here, because I was reading about Case Knives in a german knife magazine (Messer Magazin) and I though they are really nice looking knives. Jigged bone is unique here in Good Ol Europe. But there were no further information. So I started an internet research and came to this side. I had no idea, even about the vocubulary - Walk & Talk - Pile Side - all these things. But the fog cleared fastly.
I´m glad being a regular member of this crowd of great people from all over the world :)

Cool knife!!! Not an entry though. I came to traditionals looking for something to legally carry in NYC but that would also be a great slicer without a lot of pocket space!
