GIVEAWAY: The one that started it all!....WINNER ANNOUNCED!

WOW! What a BEUT!!!

One wonders what stories are soaked into the patina around those leaves. . .

If memory serves correct, I found myself looking around for information on a sharpened crowbar called the Ka Bar Potbelly a few years ago around Christmas Time and found the BladeForums while surfing the web. Well here it is a few years later and I have yet to drop the cash. (still around $70?)

I find myself cruising the interwebs for a pocket knife comparable to Granpappy Hamar's old craftsman I inherited, and run into a story about Mumbledy peg at TheArtofManliness a few weeks ago.

So I spend alot of time lurking on the bay for a Case two blade hobo these days. . . : B

Pulled the trigger on a Chinese Fury (spent too much at $14) last week and got the lil thing a few days ago. I immediately was put off by the weak springs and loose construction, and let it sit for a few days. Well I took it to work today and brought a pear apple to try it out on. Well the dang thing was past it's prime, turnin' brown in th' middle an stuff (yuk). Tried the other one a little while ago and it too looked suspect, yet somehow less so. . .(yuk). It seems to handle aged cheddar well though! (Yum)

I guess I'm kind of a knife miser. . : B

I think just I found my mumbley peg knife : ) Y'all boys better start practicin' 'cause I'm a comin! : B

I find myself back at the BladeForums around Christmas hoping for a sweet old carbon steel hobo and perusing in the traditional section (what a wonderful little corner o' the 'net, rivaling the Tw200Forums in terms of politeness, kindnesss and generosity! :))

Your post got me thinking about the knife that started it all for me. . . a Western #666 Skinner. I count myself fortunate to have the knife my Pops got me when I was a kid (about 8). I skinned my first rabbit with that knife. I remember I was real bummed when the retaining strap broke. Dad fixed it up right away with Velcro strap. That strap is still on the sheath. (I had to go out in to garage and bring her in from the cold) I'll post a pic when I kin figure out how to on this infernal machine!1207130037.jpg1207130034a.jpg

Thanks for the generous giveaway, It made me really appreciate the knives I do have and has reminded me of one of the joys of knives, namely the neat feeling you get when gifting a knife. (Mom is gettin'a lil' Case peanut this year :) )

Happy Holidays,

Bryan

I'm a returnee to the traditional fold. I sold off my large collection of moderns and traditionals one piece at a time back in 2006 when I was unemployed. I started working again in 2008. I re-established my favorites in the moderns realm without much thought given to traditionals, then came across this custom by Bill Middlebrook and traded for it at a gun show. I came here to research it and now, 12 GEC, Canal Street, Case and Northwoods knives later, I'm hooked for good.

Vic,
thank you so much for your generosity. This is not an entry. Great knife to give away though ;)
I don't know which knife got me into traditionals...considering my background, I think I was always a traditionalist in terms of knives.
I do remember my dad handling and using resolzas since I was a kid :)

Just wanted to say thank you to all the entries so far, they've been really nice to read on an otherwise uneventful day. I'm surprised at how much I can relate to quite a few of the stories here, even if my particular case was a little different. I'm noticing a bit of a trend in some of the posts...it seems lots of folks have come here for information or research or got sucked in by a pretty picture and stayed for the people that make up the traditional subforum. Just wanna say thanks to everyone here for making this place so special, it feels like home every time I open up a browser window to check out the latest happenings around here.

I'll let this one keep running for a little longer, I might try and draw the winner before Christmas so I can send it off before I take off to visit family for the holidays. Good luck everyone!

I ended up here because of how I acquired my traditional knife. Being in law enforcement, the first knife that I "confiscated" was a late 60's stockman. Since then, the only things I have come across have been junk. However, my interest was piqued, and even though I carry a tactical folder clipped to my pocket, the Stockman is IN the pocket!

Get your entries in folks. I'll be drawing a number Wednesday night in the hopes of shipping it out on Friday. I'm leaving town for the holidays and wanted to get this one in the mail before I took off.

I'm in! Thanks for posting this giveaway. I first got into traditionals when my grandfather passed and I inherited his 1977 Case 6318. I ended up here trying to do research to learn more about my grandfather's knife.

I"m in please. I got into knives when I was a very young boy and my parents traveled to Switzerland. They came home with a swiss army knife for me and my dad would let me look at it and hold it and tell me one day when I was "old enough" I could have it. One day, he finally gave it to me, and I've been hooked ever since. I still have it in my safe.

Watching my grandfather clean out his pipe with that old penknife he always carried. Wished I could have got ahold of it after he passed, but I was told its in good hands he was buried with it in his pocket.
Im in! Thanks for the great giveaway!

I'm in.
I found Bladeforums after my dog chewed the handle on my old Kershaw dwo. I had been looking to get a Benchmade for years but had never done so. Now I had the excuse I had needed. So I became obsessed with Bladeforums and the reviews. I finally ended up with a sweet griptillian in s30v. Well, I kept looking at other knives and then found Busse and kin. At this point I don't think I'll ever be the same lol. I have already learned a ton about sharpening and steels and manufactures. I don't know what took so long as I've always been into blades.

I'm in. I've been into knives since I was young. Bought my first EDC as an adult after most of my collection was stolen years ago. My EDC is a ZT0350 with a custom kryptoglow scale and my collection has been growing ever since.

I grew up around knives. My Dad was a knifenut before such things existed...LOL. He has a drawer full of pocketknives that he's collected over the years, and he was always sharpening something. Guess I got the bug. BUT, it lay dormant until I stumbled onto another site and won a Bark River Mini-Canadian. Now, I've got my own drawer that is starting to get full, and my kids watch me whittle hair when I get a good sharpening technique going.

At first, I was all "traditionals" but I've added a few of the more common modern knives, all with shorter blades due to my city's terrible restriction on length.

Oh, and I'm in.

And I'm out. :) No worries. That's what you get for posting from page 1.

OK....drum roll pleaseeee!

and the winner is....post number 44!

Thank you everyone for your wonderful entries, I really enjoyed reading each and every one of them. Thank you all for playing!

... Wow, Vic. Just, wow.

I'll be way honored to receive this knife, not only because it's so fine in and of itself (and I have nothing else remotely like it) but especially because of how much I appreciate your posts (and your very specific help in answering questions about what has become one of my favorite favorites, the red licorice Calf Roper).

Thanks so much!
