They called me “Flash” because of how I moved. And then after knowing me a short time they stealthily derailed me because of my politics. Showed me in some jobs it’s not how well you work, it’s who you agree with.

Thankfully, no. I had many jobs where I was at odds with people for one reason or another, but most of them I kept as long as I wanted them because I moved quickly and efficiently and got more and/or better work done than what was expected. Or in the case of call centers, I was easily able to hit the almighty metrics. Of course I usually kept to myself and didn't get involved in drama. But the chicken catchers had to be at different farms across the province or in Québec. So we would all pile into a van and stay at one or the other lodging hub for however many days until the given job was done. It was extremely close quarters living, often communal sleeping areas, and these guys were very different from me. I had two choices, either stay away from them as best I could and keep to myself, or actually speak my mind on things they brought up that I had an opinion on, which sometimes felt like a moral obligation, and so the rest is history.
