Stacy, everyone,
I have some things that I could offer up to new makers for cost of shipping only. Is it worth a thread to allow this kind of thing to be posted?
If so, here or the for sale thread or what?

From the Moderator - Here are the simple rules to keep this open and in Shop Talk
If you have something to offer, state what you have clearly and post your email. If you are interested in something and would qualify as a new maker with need for help - send them an email or PM.
I will move all the offers to the first post if they are listed properly.
EXAMPLES:
I have a spare metal cutting Jet bandsaw I would give to a new maker if he pays shipping.
joetheknifeguy@abc.com
I have a box of handle wood that would be good for a beginner. I will send it to a new maker free.

You must be reading my mind................. we're slowly downsizing and I've been thinking about how to gift some of my tooling (surface grinder for example) to someone who could put it to good use.

Funny enough I was thinking the same thing this morning when reading the thread about hardness testers and hardness tester files.

I then remembered I have a set of Grizzly hardness testing files which are as good as new. And I thought I would give them away for the cost of shipping.

I'm fine with you and anyone else making this the thread for such things.
Post what you have and any particulars on who can have it (age, experience level, financial ability, etc.).
Post your email so they can contact you directly. All the arrangements should be made by email or PM.
I may move things for giveaway into the first post as they come up in the thread. That way they will be clearly visible without searching the whole thread.

This is a great idea. I have quite a few items I can put up too.

Warren

Good idea, I’m sure I could dig up some stuff to. Just need a way to filter out the people that just want stuff to turn around and sell it.

Man was just thinking this the other day. I have a box of walnut scales that make perfect practice handles.
@stormberg i might call dibs on those hardness files lol

This is great guys!
(though I won't try to claim anything myself as I'm just a hobbyist with limited space and a decent day job).

Great idea Brock!
Since moving to my new shop I've got a couple of things that I don't use any longer and would offer up.
I've got a Ryobi wood cutting band saw and Jet 2X42 belt sander with belts.

Hello Robert, I’m new to knife making but am really enjoying it so far and trying to get into it more, I don’t have a lot of disposable income to spend on tools at the moment but have actually been looking at a jet belt sander as a option one day to upgrade from a 1x30 sander. I wouldn’t feel right just taking anything from anyone but if you would be willing to trade a sander for a few knives or sell it at a reasonable price I would definitely be interested, my email is joshuaswoodshop511@gmail.com if that’s something you might be interested in talking about further. I think this is a great post if for nothing else is it shows how supportive the knife community is to new makers

OK guys, no one is listening to me.
DO ALL OFFERS TO ACCEPT/TRADE/ETC BY EMAIL OR PM.

Stacy I apologize if my comment on this thread was out of line, still learning the forum and how to do things like sending a pm. I just don’t want to start off on the wrong foot.

Honesty on the part of potential recipients will be key here. Some general guidelines should be established so folks who are wondering if they qualify can judge for themselves how close they come to the requirements. Maybe something like a maker who has less than two years experience, a student or unemployed/underemployed. There will be grey areas of course. If a new maker isn't sure whether or not they are eligible they should describe their situation and get a general consensus.

Hey Rick, I might have an extra 6 axis mill laying around here somewhere if you think it will help you make your knifes. :D

I'm pretty sure I qualify as a new maker, I have finished two blades so far. and excited to make more. I'm really grateful that many of you that are willing to do this. I currently use a hack saw, 1x30 sander, and a hand drill for my knives, so pretty much anything would be an upgrade. I'll keep looking on here to see what is being offered but you can also PM as well. Shipping would be to Dallas, TX. Thanks

I'm a new maker myself (<1 year), but I like the idea of this. If any other new makers in need (I'll let the people decide that for themselves) could use some wood, I'll scrounge up a USPS mailer of some assorted blocks of unstabilized hardwood. This will most likely be an assortment of curly ipe, cocobolo, figured walnut, shedua, padauk, and maybe some african blackwood. I can even pay shipping if it's in the lower 48. Most of it is only 1" thick, so may not be the best for hidden tangs. I've got enough that I feel comfortable offering this to the first two people that email me at jalopiccolo (at) gmail (dot) com. Happy Monday, all!

Well, not sure if the rest of this thread is going anywhere but I sent some packages today each with enough wood for about a dozen knives. If you got one, try and pay it forward whenever and however you're able.
