GLADIUS - What do you think?

excellent comments from you and will...

Excellent advice.

And ... there are still some of us, out here, that re-sell for the original price we paid (plus shipping and insurance). Not many of us ... but there are some.:o

For me, it's a hobby and not a business. I make money in other ways.:)

Will it become a "Classic"? Busse swords are considered quite good by sword conoisseurs. The Ruck, AK47 and recent Swamprat sword all represent good investments and are much cheaper and more resilient than custom models. Now we have the Gladius. I don't think I'll ever buy one because I don't believe I'll ever need one. It does seem that the Gladius would be a perfect weapon for hand to hand combat. The existance of guns makes these swords rather obsolete but there are quite a few sword enthusiasts around the globe who could greatly appreciate its design. For those of you who have wielded one at Blade or elsewhere, what's your opinion of the Gladius? Is it too heavy or does it feel just right? I would hate to be on the receiving end of a beast like the Gladius. Why hasn't anyone posted any pictures yet? Were they pre-order only? Any comments, hands-on opinions or reviews would be greatly appreciated.Tthanks in advance.

The blade is too short and the handle is too long just for starters. You really shouldnt even campare it to the real deal, its a novelty item. However, they look cool and if having one makes you happy and you dont mind the price, then what the heck most of us have wasted more on less.

Agree to disagree about the measurements. Have you held one in hand? I don't know what you mean about comparing it to the "real deal." If you mean comparing it to the traditional Gladius, well then yes it is very different but Jerry didn't want to make an exact replica of the ones the Romans actually used. He wanted to make a better one.

I'm also not sure what you mean by calling it a novelty item. I agree, it is a purpose built blade that was meant for killing, but it will excel at practical applications such as chopping tree limbs, etc. If you mean novelty as in not functional, then that couldn't be further from the truth. I'd put a Busse Gladius in a destruction test against just about any other sword out there. We're talking .30 thick INFI. If it doesn't appeal to you that's ok, but the rest of your post is not very clear.

I absolutely love mine and will never part with it. That being said, it is the one blade i have no real justification for other than its pure awesomeness. It is an absolute beast, its doesnt chop, it shatters the wood. I wish they had dropped the fuller and bring the grind up nearly to center. In something that large and heavy, its not saving alot of weight.

My CG weighs 2 pounds 8 1/8 ounces.

It's awesome, now I need some infi Lorica Segmentata.

Another troll under the bridge? A perfect oppotunity for the Gladius :D
