Gladius

Very nice, sir! At first I thought it was going to be one of those pseudo-gladius jobbies that are all the rage right now--what a pleasant surprise! I love your use of copper--it accents the wood very nicely and the handful of small forge marks you left at the centerline give the piece a very nice rough-and-tumble vibe to it. Tons of character.

Well I have to say that is FAR to nice to be called a "camp sword" so you failed there... but an excellent failure if I may say so. :)

It seems like a shame to do something that is pretty close to historical in a scabbard that isn't historical, would you be interested in some scans of period appropriate scabbards?

can you make an extremely simplified version of that? i'm looking for something similar in blade shape but without the gladius flare

basically just a full tang blade and scales...

Great work, beautiful sword! I love the hilt elements and the way the whole presentation flows together. I'd echo what Triton says - that gladius is very close to historical examples; it deserves an equally historically appropriate scabbard!

The sheath should be done this weekend. I've been working on the main order that this was the practice run for. It's a Pompeiian style blade.
