Hey everyone.

Short story, I have been making knives since March 2014. 30 year old family man from Norway. Knifemaking is primary hobby but I have found my passion.

More or less it was a few people that "got" me into knifemaking and have been very important. Mentioned, Stan Wilson, Mike Smith, Jay Fischer and Mike Carter.

Also been very lucky to gotten a few friends on the way as Stan and Mike, without them I would be able to grow. So I start this thread saying thanks to them and their friendship.

To the model. The model have been inspiration from some previous build and of course my sub conscience have played a roll with the design.

correct me if the text is off topic.

next posts from now will be all WIP

thanks

/Glenn

all materials have been sanded flat on 1" glass platter and are ready for first mechanical task, drill the undersized holes for liners and spine material.

now I can do final profiling on blade i open and locked position, earlier the better. and this knife will have a lot mechanics so I have to be sure to have room where needed.

Cutting the spine

Flat sanding the spine end for blade to stop

Possible to get best result even without surface grinders or mill. Glass board and some patience do the job

Milling the spring material to right thickness

Then I use my special fixture to mill the width so it fits nice in the handle.

Spring is ready for location and heat treat

Raw cut from bandsaw, fits snuggely

Heat treat the spring 2 cycles at 900 celcius 1 cycle of temper, rwl34 makes a good spring on this process.

Spring in place

Blade roughly adapted to location, missing some parts so final location is on hold.

Slot finished for next part.

Pivot is ready from this side, more job on the other liner

Pivot pushed in place, secured to keep it from rotating

nice work!
not much time for the forum these days, but I wanted you to know I appreciate watching this project unfold :)
Thanks!

I am truly enjoying this WIP. I love how it's coming out!
I haven't even seen the end result yet, and I'm pretty sure I want one!!

Milling down another part for the lock system

Adjusting the spring for the hidden button

A lot of geometry goes into this build and mechanics

I set my mill for repeatable operations, I believe in take things slowly and steady. One more time than ruin it on first try.

Checking for cleareance and planing next parts

Both open and closed position is now good

Time to do bolsters

This handle will have straight dovetail lines on bolsters meeting up with mammoth scales. I use a filing guide I made for this job.

Checking the symmetry with a parallel

Here is the first stage of dovetails

Last stage for dovetail is done on a tempered 1 inch glass platten that is dead on.

Finished at 1200 grit, also the dovetail get a jeweled finish when final work coming up, every surface and dimensions of my knives gets the same attention. Inside is equally nice to the outside.

3 more to go, after this I superglue and transfer undersized holes. No screw visible on the outside

Thank you guys for comment and feedback. I just replied direct here, don't find the tag for each one.

Dovetails done on front bolsters

Parallel

Symmetry view

Undersized holes next, from liners to bolsters

"Starting" to look like a knife

Sentered spot drill in the bolsters, next task room to lock in the mechanics.

Some small mill work for next pictures

To be continued

Time to make the button, revealed the pattern so I can find a similar piece.

Material that match the hole found, this will be tricky but fun job.

Roughly marked and with guiding holes, ready for the roundtable.

Pocket milled on the pivot screw side bolster

Shaping the pivot screw

All messy :P to be continued very soon.

Button ready for shaping

Just flat sanded to see if it holds my tolerances, seems good so far

Tuned in the backside and it fit nicely against liner and mechanics.

Flush tested

Button will be flush with the contoured handle, but for now this is just for testing to show tolerances

Hides nicely

Profiling bolsters

Profiled

Time to filework spine and blade

Filework finished, liners get filework later in build

Parts is ready for HT, will come back with updates soon. I will ship the parts to Damasteel on this build cause honestly I won't risk warping on small parts like the backspacer. This is all damascus only liners that are in Titanium.

Ensured that the pattern match up also before shipment

man, what impressive skill. This has been terrific so far!

Just a short video of filework, hope quality of vid is good enough

Filework

Here's me(and ya Stan in the background)

Better picture of the button, the pattern is very random so this match up was approved

Disassembled the knife, this is a map for every screw

All the little parts on this build

Parts ready for HT
