Well, I have been in the market for a Glock model 17, and according to both my local gun shops, there are none to be found. Whats the next best thing? I have heard the Springfield XD's are nice, but I have never shot one myself.

I am asking this here because as far as Internet people go, I trust the opinions of many people on this board.

Sig P226, a little more pricey than the glock but reliable, accurate and feels much better in the hand.

I live in Ct. (and you are in NY, correct ?). there are plenty of Glock pistols here locally. You can always transfer one from CT. to NY. (If you want the name and number of FFLs here in Ct., let me know and I will email you their names and numbers). For me the best price is found an hour away from me in the middle of Ct. & usually has every model Glock on hand. You know, the closer you get to NY City (here in Ct. anyway), the more $$$ everything is (gas, real estate, groceries, and guns). Springfield XD models, the newer models anyway, have match barrels and I heard are great shooters. They are more expensive than Glock. S&W also have the MP9 model, a little cheaper than a Glock.

I own an XD9 4"barrel 4 hi cap mags... I love the XD series ,I have never had a issue with the pistol and I have owned it for 5years. I also had a Sub compact XD45(great pistol but I prefer 9's) I traded it for a S&W 686 .357 6"barrell, every one should own a Revolver..

I carry a Glock 27 every day of my life. Academy Sports has them in stock the last I checked.

search gunbroker.com you may find one in your area not at a gun shop but a local selling from house...I found plenty that away

The title of this thread is just plain wrong! As if there is such a thing that could replace a Glock? :D

The only alternative to a Glock 17 is a Glock 19.:D

+1 to that. Glock is the word.

I'm actually headed to "Ye olde gun shoppe" this afternoon for a new blaster. I'm kind of leaning towards a 21SF, but I've always wanted a 17. My 19 is my favorite gun by far- and I have a "few".

I hear good things about the Springfields.

For casual carry, I like my Sig P239 (caliber: .40S&W, magazine holds 7 rounds). ALWAYS bring a gun and good running shoes to a knife fight. ;)

The Sigs are nice- I love my P220. But I don't think of most Sigs as comparable to Glocks- they're different animals (alloy frames). The new polymer Sig is interesting- that's one I plan on checking out.

I really like the Glock's polymer frames. You can't scratch 'em, they don't scratch you (or anything else) and they're built Tonka Tough!

I'm not knockin' Glocks but I've just never warmed up to the polymers. Call me old fashioned and just plain old. :p
