Glock 17 alternative

I've got both the G17 & Springer XD. For what it's worth, to me they are the same firearm with different grips. The springer has the angle and feel of a 1911, for me the Glock took a little getting used to. I don't even take both of them to the range at the same time, I have found if I shoot the XD and then go to the Glock I am all over the place. There are plenty of alternatives to the Glock, but if that's what you really want, stay the course till you find one.

Edited to add: obligatory pron....

I carry a 26 or a 19 24/7 and I agree- the 19 is the best carry weapon out there. I do really like the new M&P 9 but it doesnt have a polygonal barrel. Probably doesn't matter much to most but it's somethin I dig. I think of weapons the same way I do cars & trucks- & consider what Sal says... "all good- just different". Sigs, Glocks, Smiths, Rugers, H&Ks, Springfields & all the other respected manufacturers make great products. Pick something you like aesthetically and feels good in your hand and spend some time getting good with it. I say go glock- but there are lots of weapons out there just as good if you spend the time and effort to get good with em.

Like others have stated, all listed are great guns. If possible borrow or rent a few and shot them, if you were close to SLC and want to provide me a little ammo to shot I would happily take you to the range with a few dozen handguns.... then see what you like, then try them on (carry) for size. I can comfortably carry my XD45 compact with the short 10 rd mag, but on occasion carry the XD40 subcompact. My father has a few glocks. I have several XDs. I have even carried my full size PX4, which between that and the 5" XD45 tactical, I will have either on my hip when hiking or on the family campout with the Mossberg sitting close by.

With carry guns, you NEED something reliable.. most of the popular choices are popular for that reason alone, something you can shoot well, and can carry.

My XD collection Top down, left to right:
XD45 tact DET
XD45 comp (carry)
XDm40 Od
XD40 sc
XDm9 bitone
XD9 sc bitone
all sporting TFOs. I like these and the Yellow/ Green combo. The Yellow rears are not as bright as the front but this is good since it draws your attention to the front sight. I have a TLR1s that I can toss on mutiple handguns as well with light bearing holsters to go with it (most are bladetechs).

I do like those Springfields. When I got my current Glock, I really considered getting an XD instead but I've had such luck with the Glocks I went with another 17.

Since were posting gun pron:

Glock and RAT.....Perfect together.

I have several glocks including the 17. however, the xd-m is a bargain because it comes with a holster,2 mags, mag loader, mag holder and adjustable backstrap. I have one in 40 s+w.

I like the XD the ONLY problem I have with them is the bore line is too high which results in more muzzle flip.. You can get your hand up real high on a Glock and it keeps the muzzle down.. I have 5 Glocks and cant find anything wrong with any of them.. They just work and work and work;)

I have considered gunbroker, but I just can't bring myself to buy a gun on-line. Don't know why, just the way i am.

:confused:How do you post a pic. on this forum???
Everyone is flashing their gats, and I want to do the same. I have a G19 OD green frame with a M6 laser/light and a 33 round mag, ( but my EDC is a Kel Tec PF9 or Khar MK9, easier to carry). I like the Glocks because you can swap mags based on caliber. I don't know if SA XD has 33 rnds mags, and can you swap mags also?
My fav. is HK though, tight, tight groups with the USP .45 Tac. @ 20 yds.

If you use Photobucket you can click on the IMG code and then just paste right in the post.

G19 here, G26 for the missus.

Beyond Glock, I'd suggest taking a look at the M&P9 -- not because I have personal experience with the S&W, but because a coupla pros (instructors) keep bugging me to do the same. ;)

Are the sub-compact and compact glock 9MM's as famously reliable as the full size? I am just getting into Glocks, so sorry for the stupid questions.

I have couple of 32 rounders for the XD, just for fun I guess. I don't really think I would trust them 100% as they are not factory.

In our experience, the G26 matches the G19 reliability-wise. A weak grip on the G26 is just begging for an FTE (don't ask me how I know ), but keep a good squeeze on it and it's GTG all day long.

I EDC a XD .45 4" and a BIG  to what Snakedoc said about the XD grip. It is based on a 1911, where the Glocks do take getting used to... I usually end up hitting lower than where I am aiming, the XD just feels more natural to me. Can't go wrong with either though...

I carry a Glock 26 daily and a G19 when I dont need to worry about printing as much. Cant say enough about the Glocks ease of care!! AND THEY RUN GOOD TOO :)
