Glock 17 alternative

I just walked in from the gun store with a brand-spankin' new Glock 21 SF. Oooooh. She's nice. 13+1 rounds of .45ACP goodness. That's big medicine!

Congrats!! Now to pull off the big act, find ammo:rolleyes::p I don't know about you, but AZ is out of ammo!! I can't find a .45acp anywhere in metro phoenix...

Ammo I have. There seems to be plenty around here still. They only had one box of hollowpoints left in .45ACP though. $25 for 20 rounds of Hornady 230 gr. .45+P! Ouch! I had to buy it anyway. 230 grain hollowpoints at 950 fps is pretty authoritative. You get hit with one of those, you're gonna notice it.

As other people have said, a Glock 19.

Personally I'd prefer a P229. Glocks have many virtues and I have nothing against polymer, but Glock grips hurt my hand. I'd have to do some sculpting. The 229 fits me. Doesn't fit my wallet, though.

I like a lot of different pistols, but if I had to defend my life one of these is what I'd reach for.

Friends don't let friends shoot grocks. :D

Seriously, if you want something thats as reliable as a glock, but more refined and more accurate, then get a walther P99. Probably the most ergonomically comfortable pistol out there, a tack driver and very very concealable.

I've got all sorts of nines, but my walther would be the last to go.

And people call GLOCKs ugly!

Blech!

My pictures aren't as perty as most of these, but here's mine:

I like the stopping power of the 1911, but it is just too big, bulky, and heavy to carry concealed for any amount of time. The G17 is a little large for that too, but I am still able to conceal it reasonably. Its not like we get a whole bunch of shorts and tank top weather where I live. I would really like to get a G26 or G27, but never seem to have the money when I find one.

I have added a Leupold 2x extended relief scope to the Taurus since that picture was taken. My plan is to carry that in a bandolier holster and see how it does against deer this fall.

I'm a big glock fan for the simplicity, lightweight, and reliability. If your considering all steel guns check out the CZ-75b, mine is a joy to shoot, a little heavy, but 100% reliable.

I'm not a Big fan of Blocks, I mean, Glocks*. THey are extremely reliable and accurate, but they are way to boxy for me.

I trust my life to SIG and HK only. My friend just got a used 226 ($450) in 9 mil with 2 18 round mags. You can find sweet deals if you look.

(Sig P220 .45 on the left, HK USP9C on right. Both with night sights. Both with high amounts of ammo consumed without one problem of any kind)

P.S. Keep you hopes up people. I think the ammo shortage is starting to dwindle a bit. We havent had any pistol ammo or .223 at the Dicks Sporting goods I work at now for about 3 weeks. Today we got a TON of 9, 45, 38spcl., and .223.

RAT people, thanks for all the responses. I think what I am going to do is hold out for exactly what I want, and that's a Glock 17. I may consider gunbroker, I just have to get over my buying a gun on-line fears.
