both good guns BUT, load them both, drop them both in
the frozen Atlantic Ocean...let 'em sit on the muddy
bottom for a week, then drag them to the surface..
guess which one will perform flawlessly????...Gaston's
Glock!!!! If you like blue balls dive back into the
ocean an empty your Glock Magazine underwater...no
problem!!!

For me, its 1911's for target and competitions.

And while I would feel confident with any of my 1911's for self-defense--my dedicated CCW and Home Defense pistols are both Glocks (a 26 & 23 respectively).

Just thought I'd mention another point of comparison: the Glock is much more corrosion resistant than almost any 1911. This is important for those in humid and coastal environments, and also a factor if you're not one for maintenance.

Actually, I think that should be "Real men make first-round hits with whatever pistol is at hand"...

I love shooting my 1911s for bullseye, bowling pin shooting and action shooting

When it comes to personal protection give me a GLOCK; as easy and safe as a revolver. :)

A safety can get you in trouble in a tense situation if you forget to release it.

I agree that this is an excellent post. I do prefer a 1911, but own both, and will never change that.

I've carried glocks every day for years. Both on and off duty, in South Florida. I've gone into canals after people in submerged cars on three seperate occations. I have never had a problem with them. I truly depend on them. Don't get me wrong, I Love my 1911's but I carry my Glocks.

The Combat Weapons Team here at USMA gives its members freedom to carry any sidearms they want (if it isn't 9mm or .45 they ahve to buy thier own ammo). Last year Glocks held a lishgt edge in numbers on the team, but this year only four of thirty-two use 1911s in competition. These people are very well-trained, shooting at least three hundred rounds a week. Their primary instructor is MSG Gordon, a professional soldier who has been in a Ranger Bat since he enlisted. They also train with SEALs, FBI HRT and NYPD SWAT. Almost everyone carries Glocks, whether 9mm, .357,.40 or .45.

Here it goes: as has been pointed out, 1911s are very safe and effective if properly trained. In the time it takes tog et this training, a Glock-weilding shooter has already gotten to advanced shooting techniques. The 1911 is not obsolete, but is better suited to offensive shooting (with the weapon drawn and ready to go, a la HRT or SWAT).

I've listened to a lot of people express opinions one way or another, but I'm buying a Glock 19 when I turn 21. Why? Lighter, more reliable and having a capacity double that of a similar sized 1911 series, there really is no choice. And while cocked and locked is perfectly safe, I feel safer with a double action, especially one as smooth and short as a Glock's.

I haven't read through this thread yet, maybe tonight.

But based on the subject heading.

I love the feel of a 1911. The only drawback is when the it's cocked and locked... Usually when I am emptying it out, I just dump the mag and pull the slide back to eject the live round or they unsafe way is to pull the hammer down carefully...

My 2 cents
