glove friendly spydercos

oh really? where i live (wont disclose for personal reasons) i had a cop tell me it was 3.5 and threaten to take my knife from me. it was a 4 inch blade.
He just wanted your knife! Lol..

I'm still with the Sage 3 or Manix 2

yea i know our laws but im not one to confront a cop when they say that my knife is "to long" and then they "confiscate it" im pretty sure they wouldn't tell the difference between a 3.5 and 4 inch knife unless i had both knives to compare. but hey knowledge is power. ive never ran around with my knife out trying to stab people so with our laws i could carry my ka-bar around if i really wanted to

Definitely the Military! Awww yeah!

borage123,

Thank you for posting this question. I was thinking of asking the same but for a slightly different reason.

I was riding home from work today on the bike trail. A guy was walking his dog (seriously large pit bull). I rang my bell well before I passed him. Good thing. The dog just totally went for me and the dog owner really had to get his butt into it to hang on to the dog. Normally I don't worry about pit bulls. I LIKE DOGS !

This sucker was so seriously unsocialized it didn't belong on a bike trail or really out in public.
This thing must have been a mix too because it was bigger than any pit bull I have ever seen.

Anyway I can usually just out run them or intimidate the heck out of them with my old style frame mount pump which is as long as a police night stick and has a metal tip that glints and looks like something they don't want to get hit with. Other than ramming it down their throat though in a real, violent, battle it would be practically useless. It is just a long thing that most civilized dogs are leary of and that is it's only real use as a dog deterent.

So . . . long story even longer . . . I had a very serious head wind so there would have been no out running Mr big jaws if the leash or collar had broken and I would have been left holding the bike between me and the dog (with luck) and trying to get my Hold Out open . . .

With

you guessed it . . . winter gloves on.

So maybe now I am starting to learn why the heck I have seen people put those seriously ugly wire ties in the holes in their Spydercos.

Again thanks for putting this up.

PS: Realistically . . . I'm starting to think FIXED BLADE. But will start reading the thread now from the beginning.

the problem is that i can not carry the military since its blade is 4 inches.

Yes I was thinking that too but . . .
you know . . .

You COULD cut the end of the blade off and regrind it; or get it done. I have shortened a couple of knives. Easiest to deeply score the blade with an abrasive wheel, ALL THE WAY ACROSS, and then clamp in a vise and flex the heck out of it until it breaks off . . . then grind on a cool running super coarse grind wheel like a Norton 3X, 46 grit. Look for the blue colored wheels.

I'm not above using two hands to open any knife so this is really a non issue for me.

Tom,

Thank you !
The simplest solution is the hardest to arrive at. ;)

I just tried the small Hold Out with those gloves on and it was a first try success. Although getting it out of my pocket was a bit slow. I probably would have gotten eaten up at that point. :)

Sub 3.5" but glove friendly is a challenge....What about the Domino?- Flipper is very easy with gloves on.

Or how about a Pikal?

ok i know this is weird but i bike on trails all the time but i also like whittling wood when im breaking and i gotta say that the izula 2 is perfect for it. sorry its not spyderco but its small, sharp, and it fits the hand so dang nice.

you know, ive been on the border of the southard. it looks to be a larger knife on top of looking just beautiful

Most 3+" Spydercos are easy to open with gloved hands.
Now closing is another thing, for me the Manix2 is the winner here.

Recently got an original Manix full size...can open this big sucker with gloves too.

wouldn't be surprised, sadly i am the only serious knife collector in my friend group so when i get a new one they are amazed (i.e when i first got my sage1)

borage123,

Thank you for that. (izula 2)
Not what I would call a whittler but a seriously useful option.

(3 inch max here (in the city)) :grumpy:

any knife can be a whittler :D and yea i know. i live a few hours from Chicago and they have some strict rules on knives so every time i enter the city i gotta make sure i got the right knife
