I do not dispute that OWL is a man of his word. Nevertheless I will not deal with him.

After some of his items had not sold for a while he posted a request for someone to make an offer. I made such an offer, in what I thought were polite terms. OWL sent me a harshly worded reply saying that he found my offer offensively low. He ended his note with a request that I not contact him again, a request I intend to honor.

My offer was indeed below market price, but I did not feel that warranted a hostile reply.

Dave,
Thanks for the kind words. You are a man of your word as well.

Howard,
Sorry your feelings were hurt. There are two sides to every story.

Well, I like a bargain as much as the next guy and I don't know the circumstances in this particular deal, but I do know that it is disheartening to post what the owner feels is a fair price and be countered with a ridiculous public offer.

One forum member seems to only have knives for sale in the $ 1500.00 up price range but when I posted a brand new in the box item in the Trading Post for 1/2 of what I paid, he posted a ridiculous offer of about 10 cents on the dollar. He wants full price for his items but wants to pay nothing to others. Yes, I was pi---d but chalked it up to his ignorance.

So, I guess the moral of this story in the "Season of Peace and Holiday Cheer", is to respect the other person, if you feel you must knock the item, it's maker or the price, do so with a private e-mail. Let's all live by the "Golden Rule" at least thru the Holidays.

Howard,
I was really not referring to your e-mail with OWL, I was only referring to tactfully posting publicly about price, opinion, etc. However, after reading the thread you supplied, I feel this needs to be exposed to protect all members of the forums. Anyone can make an honest mistake but then want to charge others to make it right, is hardly kosher. Bait and switch is hardly ethical.

Thanks for providing the link to the thread.

Happy Holidays,

sarge

Howard,
Our dealings had been private and should have remained as such.

Sarge,
Bait and switch was NOT what that was. I was covering the cost of shipping the knife to him. You wouldn't get shipping refunded on something you bought from a store ???

Thanks for being my Judge, Jury, and Executioners.

Please read my response on the above link to thread.

Owl,
I was not privy to either transaction and did not examine the knives. Your right some people's expectations are higher than others. My concern was that the knife was supposedly listed as something more than it was. This very well was an honest mistake.

Personally, I would not know "Wayne Goddard" Jr. from Sr. if he walked in the door and sat beside me. If it was the Jr. and not the Sr. that was sold (and expectations were for Sr.) then I understand his disappointment.

If I had sold the knife and I thought it was a Sr., but found out it was really a Jr., would I have returned his money. Yes, I would have returned his money upon receipt of the knife. Shipping, I would have paid 3.20 for Priority mail if it was my mistake.
Would I have let him keep the knife for
$5.00 less. That really depends on how much money I had in the knife. So, maybe yes, maybe no.

I was not trying to judge you but when you have multiple posts from several members, someones intentions are being misunderstood.

Gee, all I wanted to say was that we had a good deal, didnt mean to start all this crap.

But I'll tell you one thing,
any pencil neck ever posts my family name without permission gonna find out why they call me lifter(all 275 lbs) and that with a wife who's a flight attendant has access to the whole country. That aint right.

Now why dont you guys work it out like Sarge said in the spirit of the season.

By the way-Happy Holidays

OK-after re-reading this have to add this. I am not and never have been a "tough guy". In fact, the 8 years I worked part-time as a bouncer in clubs I was best known among my peers for talking situations down. I just get upset seeing anyone's family being put in jeopardy. Someone lives in the same city, sees the last name, looks in the phone book, etc. You get the drift.
Hope you all work this out,

Dave

Sarge, a reasonable clue as to which knife was in question could be found on the box, which was labelled "Wayne Goddard Jr."
No more to be said about the whole deal on my end.
Merry Christmas & happy new year.
