God save us from morons..... another knife freakout story.

I don't think you've ever been to California, mostly every other person where I live has a knife clipped to their pocket.

I think the southern parts do. Bay area here, gluck with pulling a knife. Especially since it's silicone valley.. every other person's an engineer.

There seems to be some sort of weird phenomenon for some folks that when they see someone use a knife outside the kitchen they freak out. Not realizing that knives are also very useful in many different environments. I have never had someone freak out when I used my knife, but recently my uncle said when he was in the library he used his pocket knife to cut an add out of the paper and one of the women who worked there looked at him like he was pure evil and told him that he can not do that here. It was a cheap swiss army style knife with like a 2.5 inch blade. The Carolina comments made me laugh a little, I have a friend who just moved back home after living in South Carolina for four years. He was always telling me common talk in the office was about building AR's, and what gun were you going to buy next. He was kind of joking but actually telling the truth when he said down there if you didn't own several guns, not a gun, but like less than 10-12 you were weird, sounds like a place were I could fit in.

San Antonio does have some irrational knife laws. From what I've heard, though, they typically aren't enforced in and of themselves. Rather, they are used to escalate charges on other crimes if you happen to have one of them on you while committing another crime. I'm not a lawyer or San Antonio resident, but I live pretty close by.

One of these knives is technically illegal to carry on your person in public in San Antonio. Guess which it is...

I can't believe it was in Texas. city folk...

Especially in San Antonio! I guess they forgot about Crocket's Bowie knife used in downtown San Antonio at the Alamo. Not to be racial here, but when I lived in South Texas, nearly all the Mexican American men I knew, had knives on them.

Blessings,

Omar

I seem to remember my grandfather telling me that when he lived in San Antonio for a few years his favorite restaurant was a steak house that had one butcher's knife chained to every table. Apparently they had previously brought out untethered butcher's knives with the regular silverware, but then that practice stopped after the knives were utilized in a rather heated discussion between several patrons.

Idiots.....

I was at a beer fest one time. They gave me the wrong bracelet so I had to go up to the management booth to get another one. The brackets where plastic not that paper stuff so, I took my Delica 4 out to cut it off. The two goons behind the counter looked at me in shock. The main douche bag goon says "put that away immediately or I will call the police and have you kicked out of here!". After cutting the bracelet off I put the knife away as admission wasn't free and I didn't feel like putting up a stink. Totally legal to carry a knife,they really irked me the wrong way. I didn't much enjoy the rest of my day to say the least and I wont be going back to the Harpoon fest anymore (also harpoon beer sucks, aside from leviathans)FYI

I know that some people are firearms enthusiasts, and some are knife enthusiasts. I use both firearms and knives as tools. I like to visit websites that have information about both.

The rights of firearms enthusiasts are under attack. If the gun-banners are successful, it is likely that the rights of knife enthusiasts will be under attack next. At least that was the sequence in Great Britain.

Even if you are not a firearms enthusiasts, please contact your elected representatives to support the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

First they came for the guns. Then they came for the knives............

It's legal to carry up to a 5" blade concealed in San Antonio. At least, thats the last time I checked the city ordinances

These people are just victims of their own paranoia and insulation. Television is most peoples 'link to society' They will follow 'trends' for instance, where I live, we are so politically correct that we have people walking around just looking to be offended. It usually starts with a news story where someone had a bad experience with a bus driver or some Govt. Worker, then before you know it, everyone is taking pictures of them scratching their asses or something. The theme of this is 'Exaggeration' and we see it all too often. Take the whole 'American Bashing' thing. When someone starts spouting about American policies, I ask, Which ones?..nothing. OK then, Which one? Nothing. Ok how many Americans have you met? Oh lots but they have been fine...You see what is happening, is people are just repeating what they hear with absolutely no research or original thought.
Without going too far off subject, we need to treat these fragile insular creatures with special care. Because they are special and don't know any better.
Cheers

San Antonio code of ordinances, section 21-17:
Sec. 21-17. - Certain knives prohibited generally; exceptions; penalty for violation.

(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to intentionally or knowingly carry on or about his person a knife with a blade less than five and one-half (5½) inches in length, which knife is equipped with a lock mechanism so that upon opening, it becomes a fixed blade knife.

Texas penal code, chapter 46:
Sec. 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:

(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half inches;

Between those two, it covers locking folding knives under 5 1/2 inches and all knives over 5 1/2 inches. So fixed blades and non-locking folders under 5 1/2 inches are the legal carry items.

It says "intentionally or knowingly" :D

"Officer, I've no idea how that got there!"

I had the first one of these today. I was working and one of my coworkers was (jokingly) saying that he cut himself on the scissors I had sharpened. Cheap scissors that I sharpened about... 6 months ago. BTW he was trying to cut 4 REALLY strong disk magnets apart. So he showed the cut to boss from another store who had dropped by to say hi. "I say thats not sharp. This is sharp!" And pull out my Victorinox. [[[My hindsight: That was DUMB!!!!]]]] and she goes "Thats against the rules to have a knife in the store!" Me:"....." Thinking all the while "you should see the pocket knives the butchers carry and the assistant manager.'" One of the butchers got a Kershaw Rake for Christmas. (He uses it on boxes.) She would have loved that.

Edit: I am not sexist, but this is one of those bosses who spends all their time thinking about rules.

unfortunately, a great majority are not as yet "knifenuts".

a knife is still very much perceived as a weapon when seen openly in public places
no matter what the local laws are.

so that if a stranger suddenly whips out a knife without first asking for permission to draw out the blade on private property;
i dare say, it would be most alarming....

i'll be damn if in future there be discriminating practices like having a knife and non-knife carrying designated areas just to stomp out the edc practice like smoking:-)
