Attended the Blade show today and bought about $300 worth of Desert Ironwood from the biggest vendor there....I was later told by a competitor that he (the competitor) had $10,000 worth of it stolen from his display last night. He was understandably upset, and did not want to point fingers, specifically. This afternoon after I got home I got a call from another exhibitor there that said this guy was hauled off to jail this afternoon for theft of the ironwood! Hope my stuff aint hot.

If it's possible to find out who did it, once he's convicted it would be a good thing to let the community know so nobody does business with him anymore. Granted he'll probably spend a bit of time in a pound-you-in-the-anvil prison but still. Don't feel bad if you did buy from him, it's not your fault and there is no way you could have known. It's sad that people like that spoil other people's days.

Seems to always be one in every basket. That's a real shame. I hate that for any of us but sure hope it wasn't my ironwood guy that got riped.

Oh everyone there knows who it is....it is spreading like wildfire at the show. He will be exposed in print sooner or later....

When I was talking this morning with the guy who had it stolen, he was PO'd beyond belief (naturally), but had confidence that the overnight security cameras would expose the thief....apparently the cameras did their job. From what the other exhibitor told me, everyone saw him get hauled off!

Roger I am afraid it is going to put a serious dent in my ironwood purchases...he was a big player in the business. Glad I bought a ton of it a couple of hours prior to the arrest.

Roger, did you still want some carbon fiber material...that stuff was outrageous at the show today. Email me if interested.

This is really a shame! I can't believe someone in our business/hobby would do this to another vendor/knifemaker like that. I don't know who it was, but I'm glad the system worked and the suspected guilty party was removed from the show.

To put things int perspective for the clueless among us ( :D ) how much exactly is $10000 worth of wood weight-wise ?

It would be interesting to know what this person took as far as grade of Ironwood because Presentation grade is expensive, say 25.00 worth more than what it was a year ago. If that is what it was, it would take probably an arm load? Just guessing. This is bad news.

OK, let's ask this question in a different manner...

Who was arrested at Blade for allegedly misappropriating this ironwood?

I have been to two different knife shows where a folder was stolen at each. Once in Austin and once at the Spirit of Steel Show in Mesquite. They caught the person in Mesquite, I don't know about Austin.

The guy that had his stuff stolen had some nice stuff there on his table....what was left of it. All of your knife scale vendors brought their stuff in hard sided suitcases. My buddy that was with me when all this was going on did some quick math and determined that it probably approximated, what, about 5 suitcases or so? Most of his stuff was the $25-$40 stuff...we guessed about a hundred pairs or less in a suitcase. So...minimum $2500 per suitcase? Very rough estimate for sure. Nope, I am not stupid enough to name someone at this time....not in this lawsuit happy society.

FYI: the Blade show is swimming in mastadon ivory and India stag....all vendors are pretty much charging the same on mastadon from what we saw (high). Nice India stag scales were sky high...$65 and up for a nice pair of full sized ones...rolls were $25-$28, tapers a little more from what we saw. Carbon Fiber material was outrageous as well. Not much blade steel there for sale, nor did I remember anyone having elephant ivory for sale. Giraffe bone was for sale here, but not as much as before but there were good prices on it. Obviously, mastadon is the "hot" thing now, judging from the prices, and the other materials were lower in price, relatively speaking, excepting India stag. Siberia must be dumping a hell of a lot of mastadon on the market, based on what everyone was saying, but the price was not reflective of increased supply!

You know you can name the guy who got arrested. You aren't accusing him, just reporting the fact he was arrested. That is simply stating a fact, not an act of libel.

I was reading this thread the other day at another "usual" forum here. I'm curious to see if this is related to that situation.

Your link does not work.
As to reading this link in another forum - this only happened yesterday at the Blade Show.

is that all the guy took with all those knives there? crooks sure are dumb aren't they

I last Blade I went too
I held a folder worth 15K :D sweet...

I hope he looses his nads once he's had his day in court and toasted.. .. :grumpy:

Hmmm, weird, it works for me. If you’re not registered at USN then it probably won’t work. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with this event, but if you could read the post it seems that it’s possibly linked. Maybe it’s just odd timing, I dunno.

The incident at Blade with the ironwood suppliers has been going on for a while. Both suppliers have had problems with each other. The problems go much deeper and are bigger and more serious that taking wood.

It is a sad situation. :(

So who stole from whom? If somebody was arrested it's already public knowledge, why not post their names?
