Going Clipless! Anyone else?

Generally, no, not going to ditch the clip. If I was wearing tight pants, maybe. But with loose pockets and the activities I do, losing a knife is way to easy.

I used to carry 'pocket knifes' before getting into Spyderco and others. Had a Case knife, or equivalent, for better part of my life. Can't tell you how many times it ended up lost in a couch. When I go outdoors, I had to carry it in my backpack, which defeats the purpose.

That said, the Delica carried quite well in the pocket. Thinking my soon to be had Native LW may be OK? Anything bigger is uncomfortable bouncing around.

Kind of a necessity in New York. My right front pocket is dedicated only to a knife and a phone so I don't ever have to do too much fishing around.

My Dragonfly no longer wears a clip. OTOH, I lost a stainless Delica 4 last summer that was clipped to a pocket. I've had a couch cushion pick my Sage 2 out of my back pocket. My new D4 might me getting its clip moved or removed. I'll play around with it before I make up my mind.

I was actually thinking about going clipless on my PM2s and moving to a belt sheath.

I made one for my Endura. Love it.

Clipless!!....thats .....thats obscene!! (KIDDING:)).

The only reason for me to remove the clip on a pocket sized Spyderco would be in order to use one of those simple hanger clips.

Not that that is likely to happen any time soon; the plain jane Spyderco clips works fine for me as does the wire clips. Heck, I even kinda like the Southard clip.
I certainly dont have a problem with it as some folks seem to have.

I like my G10 Dragonfly in the coin pocket without pocket clip. Anything larger gets clipped in frp.

Thought I'd post some pics to show how I've been carrying:

And here are some pictures of the sage in the "insider pocket slip". It clips to the top of your pocket using rare earth magnets and keeps the knife right where you need it:

I carry the native in my pocket and the milli too, but I keep the clip, kinda like the added finger grip that the clip provides.

The clip on my manix 2 xl created a pretty annoying hot spot. I ditched it, added a lanyard and never looked back.

Very few of my knives still have their clips... just my Chaparral, Hungarian, Mantra, and K2! I'm very particular about my clips, and if they don't work for me--off they go!

I go clipless on most of my knives!
Thought I was about th eonly one ;)

Try a knife slip inside the pocket, they are available from knivesshipfree.com. I have not personally tried this method but have heard it is a great way to keep the knife where you want it in your pocket.

Sometimes clip less, but most of the time with clip. Also sometimes with simple pocket slip sheaths.

Also for traditionals see this sak.

I'd been carrying a knife loose in my back pocket for over forty years when in "discovered" Spyderco. From day one I've considered the Spyderhole to be Sal's greatest gift to the knife world, but never saw the point of clipping a knife to my pocket so it could snag on things and get lost. I saw no need to change the way I carry them so I just take the clips off.

I've never thought about removing the clip. I generally leave the clip on and drop it in my pocket. Clips end up with extra "character" but never worried about it. I may have to look at how I open my knives and see if I use the clip for extra grip when opening etc. The ergo change alone could be a fun experience. Not to mention my clips would be in a lot better condition. Thanks OP and everyone else for a new idea/experience.

no never will i go clipless, most if not all have there clips, some deep carry and standard, makes it easy to find and not get lost!and after all' where talking spyderco right!the true inventor of the pocket clip.

The clip is essential to a modern knife .
I moved away from Traditionals because of the clip not the one handed opening , but soon realised that both of these things are essential to me now .
No clip = Traditional or Gentleman's ( special occasion knife )
Clip / One hand opening everything else .

Positron, native 5 and a couple of my delicas go clipless, pretty much all others keep the clip. I find it helps on the dragonfly to get purchase to open it and I'm less confident flipping open my pm2 without the extra grip of the clip. That pocket slip Vermontedge is sporting looks pretty slick.

A clip is a must for me! I have lost to many knives when they slipped out of my pocket. That is how I got into knives actually. I was doing research trying to find the best pocket knife and I have been here ever since.

The only exception is the alox cadet that lives on my keychain.
