Going Clipless! Anyone else?

Only on my Dragonfly. Love it that way. Any bigger and it get longways in the pocket and I don't like that

I've been taking the clips off all my knives lately and like the way the knife sits deeper into my pocket and doesn't get in the way of my hand when going into the pocket.

I've been clipless for a couple of years and prefer it. Love the clipless Chef, it's very thin and fits perfectly in a saddleback card wallet.

I carry a clipless Sebenza in my back pocket. But I use the CRK leather slip with it.

Love the leather that goes so well with a ti knife. The lanyard leather and card slip is the perfect accent.

So we are basically regressing and going back full circle into the late 1800' and early 1900's. Gramps and great grandfather had it right all along.

It was in the early 60's I saw my grandfathers carry large folders in their pockets and they used them more than we do today. My gosh they really used the heck out of their 3.5 " -4" folders. Always thin knives made in Solingen. And they carried the same knives lasting decades.

Wish I had one left to me but all were stolen back then.

Mostly clipless some I keep on for purchase but I carry in pocket, also can't beat a nice slip. I'd love to use the clip as intended but I'm always hip checking and bumping things not to mention snags.

Ouch! Did someone run over your foot while doing a burn out on their motorcycle? Just kidding, but kinda looks that way out of focus.

Why do you not like the wire clips out of curiosity? I find they retain a knife well and are much less prone to scratching something or taking a chunk out of wood furniture or tearing a leather couch. Just wondering what you have found that you don't like?

I like a pocket clip because like others have mentioned, it gives additional purchase when opening the knife one handed and more importantly closing the knife it gives a tactile feedback so I know my fingers are clear of the blade path. I can feel the pocket clip if I concentrate on it while holding a knife but usually it tucks into my hand where my hand moves away from the handle while squeezing a knife and doesn't bother me. They can feel nice with them gone but in actual use I miss them much too much to ever leave one off for long.

I also carry much more stuff in my pockets and wouldn't like it banging around with everything else and turning sideways in the bottom of the pocket. If I was worried about someone seeing the clip I would carry it IWB which I'm almost always doing anyways. If I was really worried about someone seeing it I would also be worried about them finding it in my pocket and then I would carry it clipped IWB to my boxers which really conceals a knife but is still easy to get to.

Haha, yeah and it left a reeeeeally weird mark on my foot!

To be honest I really want to like the wire clips. I like them aesthetically, I like the tension they provide and I don't necessarily find them uncomfortable in the hand.

My Bowie and my sage 2 are both super solid feeling knives but I've found that the clips move a lot when I'm opening and closing them and it adds a weirdly flimsy feeling to an otherwise solid knife. It bugs me a little. I've also found that my Bowie clip in particular loses its shape and tension somewhat easily and I had to keep removing it and bending it back.

I'm really not trying to bring any negativity to the spyderco sub forum, just sharing my preferences. After carrying this way I've come to really really enjoy and prefer it so I thought I'd share my experience. I carried traditional knives for a while but really love titanium spydies. This seemed like a cool way to have the gentlemanly aspect of carrying a knife in a nice pocket slip while also carrying something modern and more durable.

I carry the dragonfly2 and delica clipless. I like the smaller knives clipless, but anything with a 3.5 inch blade or larger needs to be clipped or else it ends up sideways.. and that annoys me.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't view your preference as negativity at all. Was just curious what you didn't like about it.

No worries! I think my response probably came across as defensive. Just didn't want the thread to take a negative turn [emoji1417]

A clip is a must for me! I have lost to many knives when they slipped out of my pocket. That is how I got into knives actually. I was doing research trying to find the best pocket knife and I have been here ever since.

The only exception is the alox cadet that lives on my keychain.
What pocket(s) were you carrying them in? I've been carrying a knife loose in my back pocket for over 60 years and have yet to lose one. Aside from doing handstands, cartwheels, or some other maneuver that put me upside down, I have a hard time visualizing how one could possibly fall out. OTOH, find it very easy to visualize how a knife could get lost when the clip snagged on something and have read numerous posts, here and on the Spyderco forum, where that has happened to others.

Clips are a problem for me with seat belts,,, once or twice a year my Spyderco ends up lost and then found under the drivers seat or jammed along side the seat tracks in my vehicle.

Marking auto paint finish and furniture is also an occasional event.

Some knives are carried in a nylon pouch on belt and some smaller knives in shirt front pocket with clip.

Regards,
FK

I also can't stand that! It kept me from carrying traditionals for a long time. I think pocket slips make a big difference and really help to distribute the weight evenly and keep anything from falling sideways. Also, you should take a look at the KSF Insider Pocket Slip. It's like a leather pocket that attaches to your pocket with a magnet and holds them knife right where it's accessible. I love this thing, and think it could really work for a clipless spyderco.

I didn't respond because I was waiting on these to come in

Other than the spring sticking it a bit far it makes carrying the traditionals far better.
