going hog hunting, thoughts on my pack...

Hey Mark, You are ready to the max. The badger and GW would get the hog done but it never hurts to take a big knife. Small saw nice to have. I was a union meatcutter for 7 years in my 20's. A 3.5 blade is what I use to dress hog, cut through the joints on front legs. You may need a saw to cut the lower back legs off.

You hit that hog anywhere up front(lungs, neck, head) and he's going down with that load!!!
We use 22mag around here when Deer season is out. Can use only rimfire
when deer season over. I have to wait for a 50yd or less shot and then from a rest. One in the ear or real close has never failed to put one down.

Have fun Mark, it will be a blast. Hope you get one:thumbup:

Be Sure To Post Pics-i've Used 45/70 In The Past And As Xaman Stated It Will Drop Them Dead.i Shot My Last Hog In The Forehead Dead Center With My 7008.any Head Or Neck Shot Will Do It With A 45/70.post Pics.

Morimotom, I know a head shot sounds great, but darn man if you aint killed on in 3 years, hit her dead in the chest man. Aim small Miss small, a consider myself more than a good shot and routinely take deer with neck shots. But if you aint got one yet...get'r down.

This is great advise, I would do the same if I were you Mark.

Good luck on your hunt morimotom! I'm headed out this friday for some pigs with my K31. I didn't picture you as a lever gun fan  .

well you never know, we might end up over in reno, or who knows where?

and maybe we'll get a sow or sumtin like that

hahahahaha.... It looks like you are well prepared Skunk :D I can understand the booze and cigars but am curious about the Lifestyles. Oh wait..... I know.... they are used for water storage :p

It looks like you guys are in for some serious fun!!!!

hey skunk, i dont see no busses on that rig!!!

anyone else notice his reflection? skunk only has one red glowing eye!!

morimotom,

It looks like you are well prepared by being overgunned and overknifed if there is such a word hahahaha.... If weight is no concern then bring'em ALL just for fun. You can rotate them knives while you hack here, cut there, skin there. In the end you can say that you dressed and prepared your game with all 10 knives just for fun hahahaha...

I think the 45/70 with the 325grainers are more than enough. I have a 444 Marlin and use hardcast 320gr WFNGC and get really good accuracy out of it. Will you guys be going on a guided hunt? I tried my luck out in the BLM land several times with no luck.

no guide, blm land in los padres, ca. we know there are pigs there, seen lots of sign. but there is also private land that they seem to spend most of their time on.

we have a pretty good spot, theres a watering hole, so hopefully this time we'll see some pigs.

im bringing my current three favorites, and each will get used. i promise!!

and ill take a bunch of pics too.
