I have a love hate relationship with backpacks. I love all the packs i own, they are a mix of swiss, german military packs, or Tactical Tailor, or Eagle Military (that one got EDIT stolen!). Love em all, use them, rely on them and KNOW that i can rely on them. Really miss the EAGLE though....

But i hate wearing my nice performance wicking heat gear with a pack......There is always that clammy wet spot under the pack. I prefer to run light and fast

last year while working Security/First AId at a festival, i used a BLACKHAWK drop leg medical pouch for my FAK. what a godsend, i could run thru the crowd, arrive on scene, drop the pouch open, pull out what i needed and good to go!

So tonight i went to the good guys at Daves Surplus in new West BC, dropped $110 bucks on a HIGH SPEED GEAR "EOD" DROP LEG SUBLOAD pouch. HELL YA! what a piece of kit!

basically a drop leg subload with integrated pouch with PALS webbing on the outside. It comes with two mag /knife pouch's with both Velcro and fastex buckles for bomber secureness. Mesh backing on the platform, beefy leg strap with REPLACEABLE bungee cord shock tensioner (my Blackhawk FAILED here...it uses stretchy fabric and now it no longer stretches). Behind the integrated pouch is a Velcro bar , snap button and other devices to add a KYDEX knife sheath (fixed blade) . My KABAR WARTYHOG fits perfectly. It aint coming out, even if i tumble and roll or fallout of a plane.

The pouch itself has both pockets, and stretchy fabric to secure stuff. I kinda wished HSG had NOT put these in.....while useful, they take up valuable space. The neat feature is the "drop down platform cord" that prevent the pocket lid from opening all the way, it opens like a ADMIN panel. There are also 3 grommets to secure or clip items to, near the top of the pouch, (inside)

I was able to fit the following into the drop leg:

- WARTYHOG fixed blade
- knife pouch #1 has a Emerson Super Commander
- knife pouch #2 has a lab sample tube with PJ cotton balls and Firesteel
- two DMT pocket hones
- RITE N THE RAIN notebook, Sharpie and carpenters pencil
- 2MM 3 strand hemp cordage, on flat reel
- MORA swiss military knife
- FENIX P1Dce light (single CR123) and white wand
- orange matchcase with 2 CR123 batts
- garbage bag and heat blanket
- snack bars (powerbars)

thee is SOME room left, but i think i'll fill it with more food.... (actually, i need to put in a signal mirror, water pure tabs, and a compass/map still....)

i dont even notice the weight, i can run with the subload, and unlike a pack, it DOES NOT flop around my back or fatigue my shoulders.

PICS TONIGHT! i promise! going over to a FWB to use her camera !;):D

in the meantime, thee are some pics at the HSG site: http://www.hsgi.us/proddetail.asp?prod=HSG-EODLP

thanjs to HSG for the stock photos (TEASER PICS! wait until you see the photos later!)

i'm weak:foot:

pics in about two hours!

There is a ADMIN clear pouch too, for passports, ID cards etc. I did'nt include it when i packed, it took up room.

Looks good, amigo! I'm a fan of drop-leg gear. Keeps things easily accessed but out of the way. That one looks relativley thin-profiled, too.

ROCK AND ROLL FOLKS!

i have an hsg eod rig like that in my go bag!! i love the thing man!! when i can get out in tha field,i take that out and attach it to my belt. very handy and accessible!!-fed

all i can say about that is WOW!!!!!!!!!!......oh yeah, and that i am buying one NOW.

is their a wait??

i bought an ALI-PAD from them a couple years ago and dont remember a wait.they make great stuff and i can not get enough of the ball caps they make.i have 2,one multi-cam and one ACU.imo they are the best ball caps in existence.

i plan on getting a few more of those,a black one and one in OD.

I have several pieces from Gene/HSGI and can really attest to durablity, functionality and comfort. I don't have that EOD bag in a drop-leg configuration, but I have a couple of holsters with the same suspension and this is one of the few that you can actually hike and maneuver around without chaffing or flopping. I couldn't wear a whole lot of drop-leg stuff in Iraq because it was too cramped when traveling in helo's, but for hiking, it's nice to get a small essentials pouch on your main pants belt but one that won't interfere with your backpack's hip belt.

Nice set up Bushman and a very function list of gear!

Great setup. I like drop leg gear. That carries more that it looks like. Ive used drop leg holsters, and I can see how this would be comfortable:thumbup:

Something like that would have been handy for me last weekend. While searching for mushrooms I was carrying around all these specimen cards and crap. I hate having to take a pack on and off all the time.....and fanny packs worn in front aren't very comfortable.

now that i've worn it and fussed around with the gear, here is my recommendations to HSGI:

lose the little pockets/flaps inside the pouch , and sew in INTERIOR PALS webbing loops (like the KIFARU MARAUDER pack) . One could fit in three molle/pals pouches nicely (FAK, tools/gear/shelter, and food) , and it would allow for better placement/organization of the gear. Or one could add a mag pouch or two.

other than that i love the thing and can easily live with it as it is.

Bushman5,

Change the knife out to a RAT and you would have a nice shot at winning the PSK contest they are running on their forum! That thing is sweet. Been thinking about doing something like that for a while.

I wonder what the sheeple will think?

Does this clip onto the belt as well, or rely on the clasp around your leg?

Yes it has a drop loop for your belt plus the leg strap. HSGI's stuff is well thought out and very secure and some of the very few drop leg rigs I would recommend.
