Going on a cruise-what would you take?

I could do that, but I'd enjoy myself more with the knife. ;)
When I travel I usually bring along a smaller traditional, just to have it with me. It's usually something I am fond of, but not something near and dear to me, and tucking it into a pair of bundled socks has worked well for many years keeping it not obvious, and easy to locate when unpacking...have a nice trip.

A small SAK without a doubt. If somehow lost then it’s not a heart-attack. The SAK is handy and wonderfully unobtrusive the world over.

I’ve been on several cruises. Snorkeling or swimming was often part of it. The SAK will ride in the pocket thru such activities without a care. Just wash and rinse it with hot soapy water when you return to your cabin.

I'd probably take my normal EDC.
Buck 110 on the belt, large Stockman, SAK Huntsman (with lanyard) in my pocket, and a SAK Signature on my keyring.

A cruise? Like on a big boat on the ocean?
You’re going to need a rope knife!
Ideally, it would also have a marlin spike for spiking marlins or undoing knots or poking holes in the bottom of beer cans for fun drinking games. I’d also consider one of the “ coastguard approved” rope knives that include a can opener, because all of the lifeboats have canned fresh water and food on board.

Great suggestion. I've always liked those knives with the marlin spike but could never justify the purchase. I should get one in white bone and scrimshaw the covers on the trip :D
I was originally firmly in the SAK camp, but after reading Jeff's practical suggestions and solphilos's enthusiasm for them, I've become convinced that a white bone marlin spike knife is definitely the way to go!:D:thumbsup: I've had such a knife for a while; I guess I should go book a cruise (and a scrimshaw kit)! ;)

This desert rat has been to the big puddle and floated about a couple of times. I always had a carbon steel Moore Maker trapper in the pocket and never had any problems with rusting. Last cruise I was on they had just started the security measures (shortly after 9/11), so can't really give ya any heads up on that deal. I'd say a small SAK in today's world as it says weapon to no one, anywhere.

Have a blast, we did. Even took my good hat.
