Going to buy a pocket knife... Thoughts?

bnknf - here are some pictures of the blade on the mini recon. Sorry for the poor quality pictures, but hopefully you can see the tip is very stout, especially for it's size. No danger of it snapping unless you are outright trying to break it.

Yeah! Why bother looking for a folder with a 3" blade? Buy an HI khukri like a real man! That thing won't fail when you need to slice a sammich or peel an apple.
Seriously dude, this is getting old. So you bought a new khuk, and you're super stoked on it. That's great. I'm happy for you. However, it is not the best suggestion for everyone looking for a knife.

Wtf??? Where did i mention this? I only said,i do not like folding knifes, because i do not see them being reliable, thats all....Peeling an apple? Yes,no prob, cutting sandwich or cardboard ok,but since they are folding knifes, they are prone to faults and fails....unlike fixed blades...Doesnt mean fixed blade have to weight a 5 kg,there are also small and very tough utility blades easy to conceal anywhere anytime...Why you are bringing another thread from another time and conversation only proves how poor and limited you are......

Poor and limited? Um, ok. (I have no idea why you chose those two words, but whatever) And why I brought it up was that you post something about that HI on almost every thread you post in. You like it. I get it. I think we all get it.
And what you said was you wouldn't be bothered by any pocket "knifes", and to buy a real blade that's not a high tech supertoy that will fail when you need if most.
So what exactly were you getting at? Instead of recommending a folding knife with a 3 to 4 inch blade like the OP was asking about?

@AntDog pictures: I appreciate the pictures - I can definitely see that it's thick enough to not break off easily. I think Cold Steel may have a bit of a peculiar design, one that isn't as... 'weak'. Same like Ontario has a unique-looking design in regards of the shape of their blades (I mentioned that earlier, I believe).

Oh,yeah, whole europe is kind of f-up with these anti gun anti knife tramps, twats (i mean politicians) trying to look important and be smart. I guess rule become rule until its respected, anything after its only a b-sht

Actually it's simpler than that: a) more control over people, b) less more-violent-than-needed incidents with drunks. Not that I like them, of course; I wish I could carry whatever it is I'll buy freely.

You mean a hea... *cough* I mean a melon? Yea, it's about right for melons. Would be pretty cool though when going to thicker foresty areas though, but I'm unsure whether I'd prefer a machete or a kukri. Would sure like to try both, and I probably will someday before I get old enough to not be able to handle it properly.

I get the point about potential failures - the automatic mechanism or loosened screws, especially if you don't have tools with yourself and you didn't check it. But that's quite an unrealistic scenario, I think. Cheap knives do fail often though, I had a metal knife that I literally broke. Well, the handle, folding mechanism and fixing mechanisms - all of them were made out of metal and it just snapped! I was just pushing it too hard. And the screw kept unscrewing every time you close it up. It was a $3 knife though, so... Go figure. The blade is pretty good though, and tough. No idea what kind of steel it is, but it's very thick, its sharp edge is 3.15in and when I got it (even though I used it for a very short period of time), it seemed so small to me, which is why I was (am?) bit vary about the 3in length (edge is 2.75in), as it's essentially .3in shorter. Though the 4in version is as long as my kitchen knife, haha.

Anyway, let's not derail too much, shall we?

Id say take a look at the Lansky world legal knife, not exactly to your specs but might save you some troubles on your travels.
And you cant really go wrong with the RATs, I edc my 1 and couldn't really be happier with it. Kind of big for your intended uses maybe.
