Hi Chaps

I wont be around for 2 weeks from wednesday as I'm heading home to South Africa. I'll try check in while I'm there but I don't know what is happening with the internet at Jill's Mum's home.

Will post a full review of my adventures when I get back !!

Brendan,

Hope you have a good time.

Do you know anything about Okapi Knives (South African)? They have some at www.worldknives.com. They are interesting looking, and INCREDIBLY inexpensive. US $22 for a 4 1/8 blade folder.

Thanks,
Joe

Never heard of them mate but here's a good knife maker I do know and his work is very good !! My Dad gets his knives and he is a good friend - my old man ordered about 10 from he (corporate gifts) and they are good knives (nice handle material - especially warthog tusk) and quite reasonable.

I wish you a safe trip Brendan. I was preparing some information on "bow and arrows" for you. It'll wait until you get back.

I have two knives by Arno Benard, guild member from South Africa. I hear Prinsloo has a good reputation in South Africa too.
All the best, Sam

Those are certainly fine-looking blades. As you say, the warthog tooth is the most impressive. A little out of my range at the moment (especially since UB INSISTS of putting up his daily specials), but I'll certainly keep the link.

Thanks for the info.

I suspect with either one of 'em, if their bodies were proportionally as big as their hearts they'd have trouble getting through normal sized doors.:)

I will try those Okapi knives when I go home. They will be really cheap so if you guys want one, e-mail me and we'll make a plan.

Have a great trip Brendan!!!:)

I was gonna say keep your head down but then I read Yvsa's remark and it sounded bad after that;) :p :D

Be safe and have a blast:) We'll be sending good thoughts your way:)

...enjoy the vacation!

I've seen that style of knife before, I believe it is a Spanish knife derivative called also the "Navaja"

greetings from sunny South Africa.I saw the query regarding okapi knives and thought I should add my two cents worth.I was in Ceres In the Cape today and stopped in a general dealer who just happened to have some okapis in stock. The price was an expensive 18 bucks. Those are our bucks.About 2 US dollars, postage would cost alot more to the states than that....Around here Okapis are considered one step better than a broken beer bottle and at least with the beer bottle you get to drink the beer first. But hey if anyone wants to swop something for one to avoid the hassle of payments drop me a line off the list at compost@mweb.co.za .Perhaps this post is now technically in the wrong area and if so I apologise to those that may be offended.
Cheers
Mike
