Going to South Africa

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like a good choice, does it?

Mike, what's the reason for their bad reputation? Bad edge, flimsy, etc?

Thanks,
Joe

UB, if this thread is not appropriate, chime in. Still kind of new here. Thanks.

Hi Joe.All the above and more..having been in SA more than thirty years from the UK I grew up here and have proberly handled 30 or 40 over the years. There has never been one that i would consider a keeper other than one that i removed from a "gent " with the assistance of my Browning High Power whilst working with a Crime Prevention Unit in 1992 in Durban.Iwas backed up by my partner with his FAL so there was no debate in this matter.Carrying one of these was a good way to have a very long and unpleasant chat with a police officer should he come across it during a pat down.
The knives that i have come across always looked as if they had been sharpened on a stone and stropped on a pavement. Those that had a lock always seemed to fail really easy and the rest didnt have a lock any way.But having said that, they have in all likelyhood cut more people than all the fancy knives ever discussed on bladeforums put toegether.Stuck in the right place and you cant tell the difference between an Okapi and a { insert the name of your dream fighter /EDC here}.So for two bucks what can one expect.
Cheers
Mike
BTW my EDC is AFCK and a very cheap chinese Spydie copy for loaning out and digging in the ground, with either SOG Paratool {so to be replaced with something better like Gerber or Leatherman}or SAK SAS set.AND the Browning of course!!

Mike, thanks for the info. As I'm not interested in sticking someone, I'll steer clear of them.

Brendan, thanks for the offer to procure one/some, but I'll pass.

Joe
