Gold Class Bugout

I would look at a TRM Atom or Neutron 2 (if you’re looking for light weight and quality) with Ti scales instead of the bugout…gold class bm’s these days are just a money grab in my opinion. :(

I have a Gold Class Torrent, which was expensive back in the day, but dirt cheap compared to what they go for these days. I still own it, and still like it.

My recent bugout purchase was terrible. Play in every direction, and if i tightened it ever so slightly, it'd almost need pliers to open, so seeing an 8-fitty bugout makes my neck itch.
At that price point its better to almost buy 2 sebs or 2 xm18's

I think Gold Class Benchmade is a relic of the past. It's extremely expensive, high-end materials, but fundamentally the build quality is entry level production quality. You call get the materials and better executed for the same or better price from China now, and those of us who don't buy Chinese would prefer better build quality, which we can now get from multiple boutique US manufacturers. Used to be neither of those things was really true, so Gold Class was something unique. Now, not so much.

Worse than that, any random We or Reate off the street will have 10x the build quality of any benchmade from the last 10 years. And $850 will get you a handful of full titanium/CF integrals from those companies.

I like Benchmade.... Great designs...Good quality and Customer Service
But no way in hell am I paying full boat for a butterfly🙄.Gold, blue.or black🙄.....Thank goodness for the exchange😜......

Like others I have some older Benchmades (AFCK, 710, etc) when they were reasonable and would not pay the current prices for them. Today there are better alternatives from companies that better align with my perspectives.

Buy it if you like it and can afford it. A hobby is not about what others think it’s about what you think.
On the other hand if you are buying it for any other reason spend your money on a secondary market custom and you’ll get something much better for your money.
Oh I totally get it. I didn’t start this convo about price, I was more or less asking if anyone has seen it and liked it or not.

This is simply false.

You can still go to just about a year retailer and buy a S30v Griptillian for $160. It will last a lifetime. The Gold Class stuff is for the Coach purse and Rolex crowd.

You might have to check with your wife, but Coach purses are for the high schooler crowd.
I think the adults are wearing LV and Hermes lol

I’d rather buy an $850 Bugout that’s made in the USA and support people here, quality poorer or not.
If I'm spending $850 on USA made (and I have), I'm sure as crap not buying Benchmade. Not when that is quality from CRK, Koenig, Hinderer, or a secondhand Hawk knife. Haven't bought a Benchmade in years. Have no desire to do so again.

We will have to take your word for it. Both of us value paid off cars and traveling over coach/hermes/etc.

Rule #1, don't buy gold class Benchmade.
Rule #2, definitely dont buy a gold class bugout.
This is on point!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Also, I’m going to suggest we stop comparing Benchmade to Rolex(LOL). All my Benchmades have blade play, (except the Anthem), haven’t been that sharp from the factory, don’t hold an edge very well, some have been off centered, and 95% of them go down in value the moment to buy them except for a few limited editions which is one of the biggest reasons the Rolex comparison is WAY WAY off.

In years past, I thought Benchmades were the gold standard of pocket knives (like Rolex of the watch world) until I found out about CRK, Les George, Hinderer, Rockstead, Shiro etc.

Older Chris Reeve (21s and older) might be the best comparison to Rolex bc of quality, tight tolerances all around, performance, heirloom knife, and they tend to hold there value and the vast majority of older CRKs have gone up in value over time, like Rolex.

The only Benchmade I’d spend money on now is the Anthem. What a surprise that knife is all around!!!!!

I cannot imagine paying $850 for a gold class Bugout with all the other options out there at that price but some collectors love Benchmade so I can’t necessarily fault them for wanting a Gold Class model to add to their collection but I wouldn’t buy one even if they were $250.

Id rather support american made too, doesnt mean im gonna overspend for sub par quality. I own CRKs, benchmades, microtechs, and We's.

This is simply false.
It is not. Ive personally handled dozens of benchmades and dozens of We Knives over the last 6 or 7 years and nearly every benchmade has had some issue, while I dont believe I've seen a non perfect We. Even their low end line, Civivi, has far better quality control than Benchmade, sadly.
