Golden Colorado - Production problems...

I think I smell a Troll is the right answer. Sal very classy and straight forward answer to someone that seems to just be looking for a fight I commend you on that.

AG what is the Israel equivalent to Spyderco Knives? Is there one? Maybe that’s who you should buy from or buy from any other manufacturer but Spyderco since you cant find anything right with them, that’s what I do, I don’t like Fords so do I sit around and complain about how my Ford truck sucks? No I don’t buy one I buy Chevy, simple answer to all your problems.

Sal,
Thank you for your honesty and candor. Obviously this idio@...scratch that, this person has some rather strong feelings, and hoped to stir a nasty reply. We spydermites have some strong feelings as well.
You should be proud of the fact that there are so many loyal users/collectors that will rush to your defense. Spyderco is a great company that stands squarely behind their products (difficult to find companies like that these days) and from my research on this site has a great leader. Thank you for staying in touch with your customers and keep those new models coming.

OK

Most of you who repied proved to me that there was really no point in posting a critical opinion here. All you are interested in hearing is how excellent things are and how wonderful spyderco is etc, etc...

If you all took those pink spyderco glasses off and listen to what the man had to say (I mean Sal of course) you would se that Sal (being honest and open as he is always) ADMITS that there were and still are many major problems with production especially at golden.

Some high rank people have been layed-off , not for the first time in the last couple of years (remember the first batch of militaries I mentioned with rusted screws and other not-so-minor misperfections ?)

So basically what I had to say is that there are problems - not local, not sporadic - but constant production issues - that is all I said and Sal proved me right.

That's all !

Now you can call me a troll,
An idio@
or any other name you like
You can even ignore me.
But I am sure that many silent members will read and chose to agree or disagree.

I will keep on posting here - positive and negative things about spyderco whether some of you like it or not. period.

I got one of the first run Militaries and it was one of my favorite production knives. AG, I don't quite understand your criticisms. The design: forward agressive belly, flat grind, inlaid liner that ALWAYS locked solid...it's AWESOME. Just about perfect.

In fact, I gave it to Tuhon Chris Sayoc because I respect him enough and it was a worthy blade to bestow upon one of the best bladed martial artists.

AG

I guess the test will be whether you actually post "positive and negative things about Spyderco" or just continue the exclusively negative trend you've been on.

I personally have had one disappointment from Spyderco in Golden (a Native that was shipped without the final bevel being ground) , but it was quickly taken care of by Spyderco W&R. and certainly was the exception not the rule.

I have had to wait months to finally get a Lil' Temperance (also produced in Golden) but it was worth the wait. I didn't consider the long wait to be evidence of a major problem with Spyderco. The quality of the final product would indicate otherwise.

You now feel that you have been vindicated by Sal's posting above. OK, now lets see if you can move on.

If you've noticed i am member here since January 1999 and wrote some other things - you might be surprised but even positive things about spyderco -- yes - can you believe it ?

AG

I did a search and reviewed your recent postings before I wrote the comments above.

Sal, very honest and classy answer.
Maybe Spyderco's Golden, CO factory needs a new supervisor?
AG sounds like the man to be the next president of the board of directors or at the very least a member of the R&D team.
Maybe, AG, you could commit (at your expense of course) to flying back and forth to the US to "fix" all the problems that you have observed? I guess I don't understand why one person feels the need to point out all their perceived problems with any company. If you have a particular complaint, that is one thing, but to just complain to no constructive end is pointless. If you want a Gunting or any other model, post in the Wanted to Buy forum. I did and was able to buy a Gunting in less than 24 hours. Like Mike said, if you don't like the product, don't buy it. It's really that simple.
AG, I also look forward to your constructive input.

Leo G.

AG, If I invited you to my home for a party would you talk badly of me to the other guests? I just think making negative comments about a Company (wether true or untrue)in their forum is in bad taste. I don't see what good can come of it. All companies face challenges and they either overcome these challenges or do not. I doubt that a lone post on the forum from someone outside of the company can offer much helpful advice...so what is your motivation?

Does that include copying and pasting the same crap from post to post?

AG,
The Spyderco Golden Colorado factory has never been functional!!!
Hmm, when did you visit this factory to check out their functionality?
Luckily Spyderco still have those small workshops at Seki Japan that make most of their models...
I’m not an expert in knife business and industry, however something says me that there are not any small workshops at all. Being “small workshops” how they could make knives for SPYDERCO, SOG, Cold Steel, FALLKNIVEN, KERSHAW, KATZ KNIVES and many other brands?
Think of the frustration Bram Frank, Keating and other custom makers are feeling when their spyderco custom collaboration models do not sell not because nobody likes them - but because they cannot be found in stores and are constantly out of stock!
Really, did Bram Frank, James Keating or someone else shared with you their frustration or you would like them to be frustrated?
Sal (being honest and open as he is always) ADMITS that there were and still are many major problems with production especially at Golden
Does not have problems only who doesn’t do anything, who doesn’t live – doesn’t have any problems by definition...

Excuse me please, but I have certain doubts do you know or even approximately imagine what you are talking about. At the ground of such weak justification your more than determined negative suggestions sound pretty oddly to do not say silly, sorry again.

This is no problem. More than likely nobody can and even is going to ban you to express your opinion. We all are coming here to share what we think at this or that subject. However the matter how this opinion is justified, in what form it is expressed and how mature it is gives a credit to person who expresses this opinion. In another words – how reliable this person is and what his or her word is worth.

So talk straight from the shoulder what you do like, you are building your image, not SPYDERCO’s.

Hi AG.
I think why you have got such a negative response here is because you made some pretty far reaching statements without much basis of fact. In fact your comments seem to fly in the face of the experience of most other people here. Two such posts in a row here from you probably set some people's "troll alarms" ringing.

BTW - I don't agree that Sal's previous comments legitamises your claims. I have worked at a senior level in a couple small companies (and yes Spyderco is a small company), and the sorts of things Sal has aluded to are normal small company situations and problems. It is sheer hell being the head of a small company because these sorts of things crop up all the time, but at the same time clients don't want to know about these problems, they'll just jump all over you when their order is late.

First, I would like to thank all of you that came to Spyderco's defense. Running a small company can be challenging and it is rewarding to know that everyone is not thinking of the Golden factory as failing.

We do in fact have a new supervisor and we are in fact making significant strides towards improvement, both in quality and delivery.

AG, We are always re-designing and re-engineering our product line. Sometimes to fix something that isn't quite right. Sometimes to improve something that we have learned can be improved upon.

I believe the same might be true of automoble companies, camera companies, etc. I mention these changes because there is interest from the forumites. It is part of the dialogue. I could avoid the heat by keeping quiet? I don't think that is what the group would prefer. I think they would rather know what we're doing and give me heat when we're behind or make a mistake than not be given the information.

I believe that the group here is a little bit different in their understanding, level of awareness and their ability to see beyond the bullsh*t. That is why they are interested in Spyderco.

You have posted some intersting subjects for dialog and much conversation has resulted...this is good. Perhaps posting your thoughts as a question, rather than a "statement of fact" might provide the information you are curious about, without the negative shadows. Spyderco is pretty transparent. Everyday we do our best for one more day.

Since my name was brought up in this thread and someone kindly sorta offered to help me find a NIB Gunting, I am still looking...hint, hint.
While you are at it, I also want a NIB Lil'Temperance leafpoint.
Thanks :)

A Spyderco Lover,
Charles

Hi Charles.
There's no way your getting my Lil' Temperance off of me :D , but if you want one they're in stock HERE , they also have Guntings if your still looking ;)

If anyone is interested I know a place that has the Gunting and the lil Temp.

Sal, I fully accept what you said and will try to keep my future posts as questions and not try to be so deterministic.

Now I will go from the global scale to something we might all fix.

So - let's do a competition (here I am being sarcastic again - sorry)

Who will be the first one to help charlesfmason get his coveted Gunting ???

Let me be the first by pointing him here:
http://store.knifecenter.com/pgi-ProductSpec?SP68GPS

If they don't have it - then poor charlesfmason is facing a hard time getting one- but we will keep on trying to help him.
