Golok or Parang?

condor golok is faster in hand and easier to control for fine work.
parang is a better chopper with more reach.

Though I will never sell my hatchets, camp knives etc.. I love my condor parang. Cuts through 2-3 inch saplings like butter. Great reach for brush. Great for batoning wood. If I had to pick one tool for bushcraft it would be my parang.

Been waiting patiently for an update! Joe- any pics/release/news/info/anything on the new condor stuff for 2011?

;D

He posted some pics of some frickin' sweet prototypes in a thread a while back but I'll be darned if I know where the thread is.

I remember seeing 2 choppers (similar to the hudson but with a recurve?) or maybe its just my imagination.

Getting so hooked on condor stuff recently its actually ridiculous. >_<

Haven't used the gook but I find myself always coming back to the paring.. actually waiting to get it back from a sharpening and polishing.. thing is dead sexy now.. batons like nobodies business and the longer blade with forward weight does all the chopping work for me and I can still shave feathersticks with it. For eastern woodlands its a perfect fit

Oops. :o Maybe I should have clarified that I'm looking at Condor's Golok and Parang specifically.

I had a hard time with this same question so I purchased both of the Condor's ! I haven't had a chance to try them out yet I just got them a few days ago! As far as in the hand...I love the Golok handle but I like the Parang blade better !

I had the Golok. My friend bought the Parang. He has some shoulder pain issues so the Golok worked better for him so we swapped. Between the two I like the parang with its longer reach for trail clearing.

We have to find that thread.

IIRC that thread had those images removed. I went back to look for them once and couldn't find them.

*Edit*

Nevermind, it was the picture of the mini-Parang that was removed.

That was just for the 2011 stuff. Check the date on the post. ;)

The pics were of the Thai Enep Knife and the Boomslang.

Definitely go with the golok. It's a great blade. Other than MY FIDDLEBACK 12" MACHETE :D, it's my favorite large woods knife/machete. Couple of my pics to tease you:

Nope, this is the post I'm thinking of:

Yup, something like the top one..I was thinking more like this:

At one point there was a picture here.

Lanyard tube, front and back, wood scales, standard black blade, carbon steel..

Dont get me wrong, if they flat out made it look more like the Lofty Wiseman (your top photo) then I would be pleased as punch, but I thought a Parang knife that had the same lines as the big one, would be cool. Keep with the traditional line they have going and all.

That Ray Mears looks alot like the Bear Grylis parang. I think Ray ripped off Ol Bear's idea....(just kidding)
