Goloks, Bowies, Kukris, and Machetes!

But just out of curiosity, I wonder which of these is the best chopper?

The golok and DFLE are about even, with the BRKT machete a little behind.
Now I'm done.

That khuk bruce posted is a maniac!! I mean HOLY CRAP!

Awesome post Vic, really enjoy your review/test's. Still for the price the Tramontina's cannot be beat.

My most used machete is my Tramontina 22" blade. It is lighter than an Ontario 18" and has more reach. The Tram is the serious machete for all-day work. But that little Condor amazed me. I was just playing today. :D

i've barely used my dfle since i got it, just a few taps. cgdf hasn't been touched. pretty much went straight to the drawer.

i always go for the fbm, rak, or ltc.

Just for fun, I put the Fat FBM up against the CS Gurkha kukri. They were very close. And the thin little Condor is right there with them. Go figure! There must be some scientific reason. Maybe that panga shape or something. My CS Panga, which is longer and heavier is a great chopper, too. The Condor bites deep, yet doesn't hang up in the wood. Where is Cliff when we need him? He could explain it. :D

Uncle Horn Dog is touched. I'm all out of IPA and down to maintenance beer. It's Sunday. In Georgia. I may have to start brewing again. I do mean IPA.

Revived and refreshed by The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous, I am on a mission from God. The thunderstorm is over, the air is cooler. Like the man said in Dirty Harry, I gots to know. So I got my CS Panga out of the garage, touched up the edge, and I must find out the meaning of this mystery. How can these thin machetes chop so well? Was it a fluke? Operator error? Out back again, with my top contenders for the King Of Chop (not counting that giant kukri that I don't have).

First, I wanted to see if the CS Panga chopped as well as the Condor Puerto Rican Machete. It is a bit longer and heavier.

golok004-1.jpg

It hangs up a bit more, but chops at least as well overall.
Then to settle the matter between the CS Kukri and the Busse Fatty.
golok005-1.jpg

Oh this thing bites deep. What a beast. Maybe just a bit deeper than the kukri. Still, not conclusive.

The heavy knives appear to be doing just a bit better than the machetes on this wood.
