Goloks, Bowies, Kukris, and Machetes!

HORN DOG, The zombies are knocking down your front door, you have to grab only one of your machetes , kukris or bowies, which one would it be????

Yes indeed, awesome thread. I thought it was worthy of resurrection. I still want to know which blade would be first pick.

What an oasis for chopper fans/users etc! The newer Condor Engineer Bolo Machete is the fresh kid on the block that would be a good contender. The original ones by Collins are still amazing tools but usually had to have the edges thinned out a bit to be more efficient cutters. The old #1005 fashioned in Hartford harkens back to a day when quality was top priority. And rest assured, you could pry with the Collins if need be.

Lots of good pangas out there, many of them are ready to rock out of the box. This is evident with the Condor line. I have had some sterling results with the Condor Bolo Machete in 420HC. It clocks in at 1.7 pounds and feels right in the mit. The refined edge was so keen I almost cut myself when taking it out of the cardboard mailing package. Condor edges are factory sharp and then some!

And the 1311, what a superb addition to the line of choppers. After many seasons of using the Basic 9, I am going to semi-retire this well used knife and go with the newer 1311. Honestly, I think this new hybrid-machete is just about tops when it comes to basic chopping chores. Not too tart or too sweet. It packs very well and provides a bunch of power in a smaller configuration than my beloved reprofiled Ontario 18 incher.

Horn Dog, love ther pics, thanks! I know the feeling you had when you witnessed first-hand the prowress of the Condor line. The first time I took the Condor Golok for a spin I became acquainted with a well priced survival knife that works like a dream in the field. Nothing is quite as acceptable as an ultra clean cut in a piece of seasoned wood that yields in obedience to sharp, atrociously efficient machete.

More!!

This thread prompted me to get off my butt and finally order a Condor Pack Golok. Can't wait to play around with it.

The Engineer Bolo is an absolute terror! Condor did a great job on it.:thumbup:

Sure can’t complain about this thread resurrection! There are many newbies to add to this line up. I believe Horndog has since added a Junglas to the stable and likes it, but I bet a machete would still take the race. Darned things just plain work! A belated thanks to HD for this work:thumbup:

For both weight and safety (as well as versatility) I'm really re-thinking carrying a hatchet vs. a machete/big camp knife. This thread just prompts that thinking even more.

I like mine.

There have been a fair amount of new additions to the machete warchest. Coaldigger was going to pick up a 12" Ontario and I did the same about this time. Really didn't like it and much prefer the Condor Pack Golok for chopping.
