Good $10-70 unusual knife to scratch the itch?

I'm with Dagon on this...strange & bizarre & strange European, African, Mideastern wierdknives.

I like the "German Bull Buffalo Horn Doctors Knife" ($35):
http://www.worldknives.com/products/german-bull-buffalo-horn-doctors-knife-gb103bh-1195.html . Looks like a 2-bladed Mercator. :)
Or the "Lion Steel Sardinian Lametta Cork Knife" ($65):

But then, Heck, just go to www.worldknives.com . Click on "Pocket" and browse away...

I have these two french knives on order:

- Le Montagnard ("The Mountaineer"): elegant edc pocket knife with good 12C27 steel. Marvel at the nice detailing!

- a modern approach (with backlock) of the classic Corsican knife with goat horn handle. No, this is not a "corsican vendetta" which is nice but not traditionally corsican (it was invented by early marketeers in Le Thiers, home of Laguiole knives!). The steel is low end 420 but doesn't it look great:

Thanks to this thread, I ordered a David Farmer custom and put a Kershaw Junkyard Dog II on my wish list..

I just bought a CRKT Kommer Fulcrum a few weeks ago and it is the most unusual folder I have owned, I think topping even my Barry Woods Swing Lock as far as the design goes. (The Woods, of course, is much better made however...at 5X the price...lol) I have handed the Fulcrum to a number of knife people who could not figure out how to open it without either 5 minutes of fiddling or me showing them. This is not a heavy duty tactical but falls into the gentleman's knife catagory.

I played with the fulcrum in the shop, it is a pretty nice gentlemen knife as you note, but I also thought that the opening mechanism was just different for the sake of being different. In other words, a gimmick rather than a really useful feature. I have a similar concern about their Gallagher glide lock in an otherwise nice looking oldfashioned pocket knife.

Meanwhile I received the Montagnard which I mentioned above. A new small french brand, and this is their first product. It looks classic in the best European tradition. The sturdy blade is a decent Sandvik 12C27, but it could have been mounted a bit better (some light wobble when pressing sideways). General ergonomic are fine, the edelweiss flower in the blade gives it a particular elegance, and the liner lock could have been thicker in my opinion but it works largely well enough for typical gentleman jobs.

I'm going to third a Browning Ice Sotrm. There are several colors and a couple styles to choose from. I've got my second one on the way from an ebay auction and can't wait to get my mitts on it.

Frosts Mora knives from Ragweed Forge are inexpensive and pretty darn nice. I have a few but like the 780 Triflex Craftsman blade which is differentially tempered, softer on the spine, harder at the edge. A great buy for only $11.

OK I'll admit this one is not practical, but I can't stop playing with it..... and you did ask for something unusual.

It 's the new Schrade A/O OTF, technically it's an assisted opening knife and not a switchblade, but it sure is fun.

Please tell me more about it! Is it made in China? How does it work?
What is the blade length? Looks like a good poor man's Infidel...:p

no kidding the best funky custom feelin one you can find is a fred perrin concept trifold it is one slick little folder fast and fun with a seriously individual feel they tend to run about 30-60 dollars and they are niiiiiiiiiiice

Even though I own one, I'd be the first to admit it's not the most practical design for a pocket knife. It functions exactly as advertised and it's interesting, from a mechanical point of view.

Since I bought it , I've probably fired it 50 or more times ( without a problem) and anyone who tries it wants it:)

Here's some specs:
3" Titanium nitride stainless steel 3” blade
Black Zytel handle, and pocket clip. 7 1/2” overall
It's made in Taiwan

The prices have come down a bit and I've seen them for as low as $33.00

One thing I learned after playing with it for awhile.... the lock that keeps the blade locked closed also doubles as a lock in the open position.

If you query youtube "SCHRADE OTF" you can see one working.

Taiwan is good. I've been really impressed by the quality of knives made in Taiwan. I'm getting one. Where do you see them for $33?

Thanks! :D

A Svord Peasant friction folder. Made in New Zealand, but the model is a replica from very old german folders.
