While I still like the performance of the newer "super steels", I have found that I really like Aus-8 for it's ability to easily take a razor sharp edge. The characteristics of Aus-8 are adequate for most of the tasks I use a knife for.

The problem is that many manufacturers do not use Aus-8 anymore. It seems like it is almost impossible to find a quality Aus-8 folder or even a fixed blade.

I was looking at the Cold Steel Voyager series. Not quite a Spyderco, but the only folder I can find in Aus-8.

Anyone have any comments on the Voyager line? Can any suggest an Aus-8 knife (folder or fixed, mostly folders though) that I may have overlooked?

Thanks

AG Russell has quite a few aus8 knives in his line. I think his One Hand Knife is aus8. I also have one of his camp knives in that steel which I like quite a bit.

I've used two 4" Voyagers for years, a clip and a tanto, and am perfectly satisfied with them. They're light, tough, take a great edge and hold it well and are relatively easy to resharpen, compared with most other stainless alloys. I have had no corrosion problems with AUS8 at all even when exposed to sweat for long periods of time (jogging, hiking, etc.). Good for IWB carry as well.

Outdoor Edge Pagragee frame lock. Nice Ralph design knife, skeletanized aluminum handle and AUS-8A stainless blade, priced between $30.00 and $40.00 bucks. Thats just my opinion I could be wrong.

I have one of these also and like it quite well. Even though I am not a great fan of liner locks, I've never had much trouble with this one. The handle is very ergonomic with and easy to clean. The clip-point blade has nice lines.

Two knives that I own and like in AUS-8 are a CRKT M18 and a Timberline Wortac. My Wife uses her AUS-8 CRKT KFF Pro daily for all sorts of around the house tasks and it has held an edge excellently.

Why don't you pick up a Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter. A.G. Russell is selling these for $19.95. It is an amazing knife for the money. The blade grind looks so much like that of an acutal Dozier that it's uncaany. Also, the Dozier is very thin but with a wide, hand filling handle that makes this 3" bladed knife seem much larger than it is.

Just took a look at that knife--that's a great deal on a good looking knife. Anthony, do you know if it's tip-up or tip-down?

I like my new CRKT Lightfoot M1! Aus-8 with
a really heavy build. I mean the blade on this baby
is thicker than any size of the M16 or M18 models;
its less than 4.5" closed and it has 4 way carry option.
Sweeet knife!

The CRKT KFF Professional has an AUS-8 blade. Because of the hanlde material, I prefer the basic version (AUS-6) though.

IIRC there are a couple of large Cold Steel fixed blades in AUS-8 around.

Two seldom mentioned ,but very, very good Aus-8
knives are the Al Mar ultra lights and the Outdoor
edge Magna (heavy duty blade this one).

I, too, much prefer Aus-8 steel as an ideal everyday steel that is very user friendly. So
much so that I have to stop myself from buy knives
in it I don't need. :D

P.S. If you need a dandy Aus-8 fixed blade checkout
Ken Warners knives at .....www.knifeware.com
I bought the "workr" model and it's a gem:cool:

Those G. Sakai knives are great! They have titanium handles and sweet, flatground blades. They make nice gents knives because of their inlays. I have one in MOP. They can be had for under $50 at a number of places including www.gpknives.com
