Hi, i was looking for another knife to kinda accompany me as a beater/loaner knife. I usually edc and ZT350, and it can do pretty much everything i need it to. But when i need to hand a knife over to someone else id rather give them a cheaper knife, not that the zt couldnt handle it...Anyhow it would also be nice to have in a situation where your not trying to play a game of knifey spoony and just need something small cut. Slipjoints are fine, locks are fine, steel isnt too big of a deal. I just want a good, pretty light and small knife that isnt too showy. I actually kind of liked the look of a case small toothpick, so i guess i could start looking there. Thanks guys, hope you have had great christmas's!

Spyderco Tenacious, Spyderco Endura 4, Rat 1 folder, Kershaw Leek, Kershaw Skyline. The most expensive one on that list is the Endura 4 and that can still be had for $50 bucks if you look around. Hope that helps.

Convenince stores around here sometimes have a big plastic jar full of cheap serrated locbacks for $1.I bought a couple to use for cutting plastic sheet wrapping around precast concrete stones that are delivered to the job site. They work pretty good

Can's beat the Opinel knives for slicing and light cutting. Or a simple mid-size Swiss Army Knife like the Recruit, Spartan, or Tinker - never know when those little tools might come in handy.
Considered a fixed blade? The AG Russell Hunters Scalpel is ultra-light and has a hard locking sheath for safety, as well as a lanyard hole.

Any of the above are in the $10-$20 price range.

Small Kabar Dozier folding hunter, light weight, about as non showy as you can get and only around $21.

I carry the Gerber E.A.B. Lite Pocket Knife for loaner, if they return with the blade broken, I just put in an other blade.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and its pretty easy to come by a kershaw factory second knife for an excellent price. Ive got a few that I wouldnt mind too much if they got abused.

I just picked up a Buck 112G ecolite in red (more of a maroon, actually). Primo knife for the 27 bux I paid, and I wouldn't be afraid to loan it out.

I really dig my Kershaw Nerve as a beater, or just about any kershaw for that matter. For pure user knives i always look at grip over anything. Mainly whether a knife's gonna give me blisters or not. Definitely agree with Bob W, if I can pack a fixed blade, i definitely will.

The Kershaw Crown is at Walmart for like 10 bucks in some locations, im impressed with them. In fact i gave one to my father for xmas this year.

The mighty, awesome, legendary Douk-Douk!

Kershaw has a whole line up of great knives from 15 to 30, (scamp, chill, nerve, skyline, clash, tremor, drone, needs work, OSO sweet, OD2, etc) great beater knives for sure.
then of course people have listed other popular "value" knives such as the RAT1 by ontario, the dozier by Ka-bar, Spyderco tenacious, persistance, ambititous. I also recommend the Byrd knives (made by spyderco) great value there. CRKT has a few beater knives like the Drifter or the Shenanigan.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, So far ive really liked the cold steel folders. One thing i dont like though is the black coating they put on almost all their folders. Is there a way to take it off? Ive also liked the rat-1 and kershaw models.

One of the overlooked great & totally affordable knives is the Knives of Alaska Featherlight Hunter. ~$60. USA made, D2 steel, nested liners (liner lock), Green or Orange G10, or Carbon Fiber handles.

Why not just get the case tiny toothpick with yellow scales?? It's a great knife, it's sub-$30, and anyone you let borrow it will be very appreciative of the Case history and aesthetics. You could also look at the infamous Case peanut and the Buck line of slipjoints, maybe the Buck 302 Solitaire.

If you want something more modern, there is the Buck Vantage Select, Avid, and Pro (small or large). I would also look at any Spyderco Delica or Kabar Dozier.

Wow i really like that KOA featherlite, i just couldnt find any reviews on it. Thanks for the suggestions...Are there any other good slim smaller blades for edc beater use? Im not planning on prying or anything, but when i need to take a knife out in public i want it to be more low key then my ZT :) Im looking for a good slim profile lightweight slicer. Appreciate the help, and i think im going to buy a featherlite as it is :)

Boker makes their version of the Sodbuster...but a locking version, which can be had for $20 or less. Nice little beater knife. Well made and does the job.
