Good boot knife?

Ok guys. I've recently started thinking about carrying a spare knife on me for those days that I may go out of the house quickly and leave my trusty sebenza behind. I ride a motorcycle majority of the time and wear cowboy boots when I am not in uniform. Was thinking a boot knife would fit the bill. Thinking something not too huge and with a leather sheath that I could actually see into the inside of the boot so the knife would always be there.

What I am looking for are good recommendations as to what type of blade would make a good boot knife and as always actual blade suggestions are always appreciated. I'm in NC so I don't believe I can carry a double edge blade but could be wrong on that point.

Buck 0616 boot knife is a great little tough tanto tip boot knife with a 154cm blade... sheath has good retention with both a clip option and a Velcro strap.

I'm digging that sweet knuckle duster. I've got a couple that I'm fond of. ;)

Benchmade 530 or 531 looks like a better cutter. If you have money, these are slim and fun and are designed for carrying in a boot.

I keep a 110 in the Harley's saddle bag, just in case. I've never found boot carry to work very well.

Gerber makes a couple Ghostrike models that are pretty cool.

The Ghostrike Deluxe comes with an ankle wrap sheath system that can also be carried vertical or horizontal on a belt.

The Ghostrike Punch Knife is a little push dagger. It's single edged, so you won't have to worry about the double-edge restriction.

Both are coated 420HC, so corrosion shouldn't be an issue. Both are made in the USA. Both are affordable.

Perrin sans scales.

Very slim, which is what you want for boot carry and its not a dagger, if you find out, that those are not legal in your neck of the woods.

Which begs the question; why carry a dagger when riding in the first place?

As you touched upon, a dedicated sheath sewn to the boot is the best most secure and comfortable boot carry.

Not that I carry a boot knife when riding.

But then I have no use for a dagger, when riding and Id rather carry a small folder where legal or carry a multi tool in a separate bag.

But thats just me.

You of course should carry, what you want within the confines of the law.

That is a good question on why carry a dagger when riding. I'm not looking for a dagger really since I have never seen a practical purposes for one. I am looking more for a good back up knife for say the time when I forget to put one in my pocket or if I come across something that I don't really want to use my sebenza for. I was thinking a smaller style fixed blade would be good for this scenario and a boot knife seemed the best place for Carey since I carry my g19 normally with my ccw and don't want anything else on my belt.

To be clear this is not for a self defense situation. That's what my gun is for. This is more just for the added benefit of a fixed blade that is on me and a back up utility blade for when my sebenza either isn't around or I don't want to abuse it

Okay, that goes a good ways towards explaining your knife needs.

As you dont strictly need a dagger, I would not handicap myself by carrying one.

Daggers have some limitations but are of course good for some things

As mentioned before, check out a slim Perrin knife for the boot or belt when riding.

Fred Perrin knives can be had with or without scales OR you can get the Spyderco Perrin version, which is called the Street Beat.

I bought the Street Beat and heartedly recommend it.

Here the current version as the version I got is discoed.

I went back and checked the OP - it was the mention of a double edge knife, which lead to the dagger thing also mentioned by others.

Other knife types can of course be double edged.

Best avoid if in doubt/check with local law enforcement.

What do you ride?

I ride a 2012 street glide now. Just switched from a dynamic super glide and am loving the new ride

Good on you, man. Always found a good ride to be better than most drinks and drugs that I've experienced.

Always good to check the surrounding jurisdictions when considering your rides. I used to ride back and forth between the Washington and Oregon borders. Sheesh, what an exercise...

Funny, I could carry a concealed pistol in Washington but not an automatic knife or balisong... cross the Columbia River and it's cool to be carrying the Bali and the Auto, but the pistol is verboten... "Dagger or Dirk" is a no-go in Washington, so don't even have them on you whlist headed for regions that declare them legal...

Arrrrgh!

Regardless, the ride along the coast was always worth it.

That is too awesome! Are they still making those?

Now for my suggestion. I know it is kinda lame but if it is strictly a backup self defense / occasional light use blade I recommend the Gerber Ghost Strike. Just make sure to get the one with the ankle sheath.

I am a total sucker for concealed blades though.

The CS Spike though a "neck" knife,
is very adaptable.
There are holes and slots on the sheath
which would enable one to rig up attachments.
A strip of elastic band / nylon webbing
with velcro fastening strap
can be rigged up for ankle wear.

If you still want a double edge
there's the "hide out".
which you could probably
tape self-adhesive velcro strips
on your choice location.
