We had to have our 14 year old German Shepard Shauna put to sleep, she had hip dysplasia (sp), it got so bad she couldn't stand.

She was an active dog who loved the out doors, she swam in the creek in our yard nearly every day rain or shine, summer or winter.

She was my daughters best friend and protector, (they shared the same birthday) 1/6/09 she would have been 14, we had to put her to sleep last Friday the day after New Years, she wasn't eatin' or drinkin' any more so we had our vet come out to the house and we all lay on the floor with her on her favorite blanket and stayed with her to the end, she deserved at least that.

Then we buried her in the yard where she always lay outside, (where she could see the creek, the house and the street.

Even though we have another dog Bailey, (he's about 4) it's hard to forget all the great time with Shauna, my wife and daughter have been upset ever since and every time I see the othe pets or I go out I miss her.

Here's a pic of her when she was 11 years old, she was beautiful. :(

Shepherds are special. They are so intelligent. We lost ours a couple of years ago.

When she was a puppy, about 65 lbs, (she was 125 lbs when she died:eek:) we found she liked to tug rope, so we tied a rope to the cooler we had with wheels and she would pull it around with her when we'd take her on picnics, the down side was at first we'd lose alot of coolers untill we learned to tie the cooler to the picnic benches.:D

It'll be a while before I get another Shepard, she was my second, the first my Dad won in a poker game and she lived to be 15 but she was a small Shepard, I think I'll wait and pay some more attention to Bailey our Terri-Poo, he seems a little lost since Shauna's been gone.:(

i know how you feel. we had to put down 2 of our shepards due to that problem. they are my favorite breed. my mom used to raise them for seeing eye dogs and donate them to whoever needed a dog.

They come into our lives, and it seems like such a short time before they're gone. Cherish the memories.

Sympathy and smoke from a fellow dog lover.

Although I have another pal now, I'm still missing Clyde who I laid to rest in January 2007. I know how you and your family feels, T. Rest in peace Shauna.

My condolences T.
Smoke for you and your family.
I'm sure shauna Appreciated every moment.
Although it was hard for you, i'm also sure she appreciated her release from suffering.
You did what any true friend would have.

T. - Very very sorry to hear of your loss. I lost a best friend of 15 years a few months back. These times are tough I know. My thoughts and prayers are with Shauna as well as you and your family. I'll send up some smoke too! -DT

Sorry for your loss. Lost my blue heeler 1 1/2 yrs ago and I still miss that dog.

Sorry for your loss T. It's never easy to say goodbye. I had a beagle growing up that lasted 18 years. He has been gone for over a decade but every time I see a dog I say, "Not as cool as my dog was..".

RIP Shauna

My condolences
It's never easy to lose a friend, especially one as dedicated as your dog
Man's Best Friend

My sympathies on your recent loss. My brother just had to put down his Dachshund, and his whole family is distraught. That's the price we pay for loving our pets - we know we'll outlive them. :(

Ironically just this last weekend my girlfriend and I saw Marley & Me. Anyways by the end she was in tears and I had that feeling in my stomach of unrest. My condolences to you and yours. I've never owned a dog (and hate that) but I know the loss. Hopefully you can all move on and remember you had her and not the fact that you lost her.

We're sorry for you and your daughters and family's sadness.
Smoke and hugs up.
We lost our doggy(16) in December and she too was our daughters(13 and 18) best friend.
She would always do her doody on the paths where I shoveled snow or planned to walk it seemed:), I used to gripe about the coincidence. Now when I go to the mailbox I get teary and bummed when there's nothing to pick up. Silly I know.

My condolences for your loss. I've had to put down several pets over the years. Each one is a tragedy.:(
