good camping knife?

Reading this was funny to me as I have had a kabar usmc as my camp knife then when I gave it to a knifeless buddy I replaced it with a buck nighthawk, then even though I still love the nighthawk I had to try a becker bk7 I have used that for a while and now I finally moved on to a ranger rd9 .I still carry a few other knives with me but I do not backpack so I don`t care to much about what things weigh(also I am huge so a few extra lbs don`t really bother me much). It is hard to beat any of the knives I have used and others mentioned as a camp knives I have used the buck and kabar the hardest and they took all I could dish out and are still in like new condition even after some throwing and other abuse. Good luck with your choice I hope you pick the "right"knife for you .

I want a knife for camping that will cut, chop, dig, and do everything else. Something under $50 would be best so I can beat it up and not worry. Any suggestions? Or should I have separate tools for each task?

Ho sorry my suggestion is a little over $50

Was interested in Daniel's post about growing up in Wyoming. Guess it depended where in Wyoming and when; gowing up hunting in Rock Springs most carried a Western hatchet -knife combo, remember those Still have two of them; for camping only it was mostly pocket knives , with a sturdy axe or hatchet in the gear. Later on for hunting the carry was a Knapp saw that had a sheath space for a knife on the saw sheath; when I became aware of Buck a Special went in mine; others carried 3-4 inch fixed blade of choice; I usually also carried a large folder in my pocket; now a lot of that goes in a daypack and I have a small Dozier or Bark River on belt with a lockblade of some sort in pocket. Also , ironicaly, I live just about 3-4 miles from Daniel's hometown and spend time at the school there.
