I'm looking for a good cheap (around or less than $25) yet stout knife. i don't care what type of locking mech as long as it isn't a friction, but I'm totally fine with a slipjoint. I'm looking along the lines of a Kabar G10 mule or Byrd Cara Cara, but i don't know a lot of knife brands. i would prefer the blade to be at or less than 4 inches, but no less 3-1/4 inches, so i guess a medium to large folder? and no serrations, since i don't have a means of sharpening them, and they look like too much trouble anyways.... I'm not planning to use it for tactical/defensive reasons, i probably would just get myself killed, but i don't care if it looks like a tactical.

thanks dudes

Spyderco Byrd's are excellent for the price point. Ka-Bar Dozier would also be good but perhaps I still recomend Bucklite Max. Medium is way under $25 and has 3" blade. Buclite Max Large one you will get under $30 as you can get Buck 110 under $30 from walmart. 420 HC backlock Buck 4ever warranty... Bucklite max'es and 110 have Back lock. Buck's are also made in USA if it has any meaning for you. Also Buck Vantage series Avid and Select are lower cost one's with Buck's warranty and made in USA.

I'm impressed with my K-Bar Dozier, paid less than $20.00 for it. If you have a couple more dollars to spend, the Buck 110 is the daddy of 'em all, at $27.00 and change at Wally World.

RAT1 for 27 USD?
Recently got one, unbelievable knife for the money. Could pass for a $80 knife easily. Strong, sharp, well made, large, ergonomic.
I have dozens and dozens of folders, but if I'm honest, I don't NEED anything more than this one. :o

the kershaw scamp is in your price range. good framelock, G10, nice F&F and a good pocket clip.

Dozens. Rat-1 is an outstanding value if you want a knife that bulky. The KaBar Dozier line has earned those repeated mentions. Me, I like sodbusters because they ride flat in the pocket. You can get a Case for your money if you do a little shopping, and if you prefer a lockback sodbuster, the Bokker Plus is really good. You could also buy two Roughrider linerlocks, pay shipping, and have change. The Roughriders are decent and extraordinary value.

Another vote for the Kershaw Scamp. Here it is (on top) compared to another low-budget great quality framelock, the M-Type Boker (Chad Los Banos design)

Big beefy folder. The plastic scales are textured in a way that really feels like G-10. Heh.

I have an issue with knives made in China, so I would recommend the Kabar Dozier folder. It is my carry knife when I do outside household and garden chores.
Mine has seen some hard use and it still functions well, takes and holds a good edge, lock is strong, etc.

Regards,
Mike

Yup philwar, the RAT-1 is an amazing knife for the money.:cool:

I have had mine for a while. It has gone camping and done everything I needed it to do. I even batoned some fairly large pieces of wood just to test her strength. After its first camping trip (some time ago) I bought a couple more and gave one away. It is just a great knife.

I put a really thin edge on it and it holds it relatively well. There are plenty of great knives in this price range, and this one surely belongs near the top.

It is one of the only knives that I have held onto for a long time without trading or selling.
