Truth be told: I like it better than the RAT 1, even though the RAT feels beefier, sturdier, and is larger. There is nothing wrong with the RAT, just personal. The Tenacious is a class act.

My posting was faster than my Brain...I missed the OPs folder specification.

That Helle folder is superb. Also Eka. I doubt they fit the OPs price point.

Nor does a Buck 110...those run about $40 but that's a great knife at a great price...I've had mine for 30 years.

Good hard working knives don't have to cost you much. I am not talking about knives made in China but rather older stout American made production knives. I am a big fan of the BUCK 112. I also believe in the 110 as well..

But just for grins and giggles consider what your typical EDC chores are going to entail and perhaps a 3 blade large Stockman pattern, 2 blade Trapper pattern or 2 blade Canoe pattern or a whole host of other good hardy traditional slipjoint pocket knife patterns too may just be more practical and much more enjoyable choice for sure..

I picked up some vintage USA Schrade OT's from an old farmer friend of mine just down the road from me that have good old 1095 hi-carbon steel that cannot be beat. These knives were all just less than $25. or lower. All in super used condition and functioned perfectly with full blades. In fact, one old vintage Schrade Walden single blade #186 was $9. and was the sharpest hair popping blade of the bunch.

Anyways, good luck on whatever you choose and if I can help hook you up send me an email.. Be glad to help you find one of these or I've mentioned or somthing similar to meet your needs..

Best,
Anthony

Here is a recent vintage Schrade #125OT locking folding hunter for a mere $17.USD

It may not look all purdy and all but she is a hard working fool.

well, i'm thinking of the 110, but i prefer a one hand opener (i can open a nail nick very fast though).

so i'm probably going to get the RAT 1, which goes for 23 dollars at yourcornerstore

i would get the Colt Cobra I if it wasn't discontinued and goes new for 40 dollars, not to mention they're almost impossible to get now =(

Can you assist me then perhaps?. I just went there and was unable to find a Rat-1 for 23.

Thanks in advance for all your help! ....

MMMmm, I wonder? if I can get a real RAT-1 anywhere in the world for 23.?? Cause the cheapest I've ever seen her is 35. shipped and that was some ways back..

Anyways, I am suggesting about midways down the page here on A. G. Russell's site is the $19. Dozier designed Ka-Bar one-hand opener's! :)..

The 110 and 112 are both one hand openers if you mess with them. Rather than holding the closed knife, hold the closed blade (hinge down) and flick the the handle open.

Probably easier to do than to describe but I do the same w/ my cheesy Gerber LST and it opens in a hurry. Once you get the hinge loosened enough you can flick it open by holding at the very end of the handle and flicking the blade as well.

the blacked blade is just a tiny bit more

does anyoen know about the Kelly Worden folders from Timberline? they're fairly inexpesnive with AUS8 steel.

The Buck 110 is a classic for a reason.
The Spyderco Tenacious offers spectacular value for money but is slightly more expensive than similar Byrd knives.
Byrd knives are probably the best choice if you want a versatile knife on a budget.

I would choose the Spyderco Tenacious.

The Kershaw Scamp is a good buy for the money. You can also get a Kershaw JYD for close to that price right now. Boker has a couple in that price range too. Good luck. Kevin
