Good CRK Warranty Experience?

Ever been involved in a traffic accident? ;) The number of eyewitness accounts of the true facts is equal to the number of eyewitnesses + 1.

Thanks for your input. Post like these make me feel alot less worried and I appreciate them as that's why I started the thread.

Had I heard nothing but negative things about the Sebenza or even CRK for that matter I would not have spent $485 on one nor would I be willing to spend more in the future.

This is my first go on a repair and I think if I end up paying I wont have an issue with it as I know and have made it known that this is 100%a my doing. If I had similar issues like the ones discussed recently I could very well have a different mindset about it. However, since car analogies seem to be used frequently i'll add one aswell. The more expensive the vehicle the more pricey the parts are to replace. If I had an issue with a $30 knife then was expected to pay $150+ to fix it I would laugh my a** off and throw the knife in a drawer never to be used again. These are $400-$800+ knives. The parts cost money to replace.

Do I agree with having a owner of a company not listen to his customers and outright call them liars? Hell no. Do I think the whole wrist flipping voiding the warranty is a bit much? While I don't do it myself and cringe when I see others do it, yea I think that's a bit much. But will I spend hundreds on a knife and go on not expecting to eventually put more money into it to maintain it? Nope. Unless its a "safe queen" which I don't see the point in that, but that's just me, then its going to be used and things on it are going to wear down.

To be called a liar and not listened to and to be accused of things you most certainly did not do has to be a burr in your a** though and if that does indeed happen with me I'm sure i'll voice it right along side you guys here.

For now though its helpful to me to hear everyones experiences, good, bad, and ugly. I'll let you all know one way or the other how my situation turns out. I appreciate everybodies input on the matter, positive or negative.

How's that for long winded?:)

I sent in a used large 21 I traded for to have it refurbished. The job is a little pricey, but it came back quickly and perfect.

Thanks for starting this thread RatRiver! I am very close to pulling the trigger in my first CRK, a Small Sebenza 21. It is very concerning to see threads talking about blade play and CR calling people liars, however. Good to have some reassurance that CRK is top notch!

Don't hesitate! I want to reiterate that the issue I had with my Sebenza was caused by ME and NOT a manufacturing defect in any way! The knife was received in perfect condition until I decided to play mechanic. So from my experience I say go for it! Only I suggest you pull the trigger on a LARGE Sebenza ;)

By the way even though I did something I consider stupid Jesse at CRK never placed blame nor made me feel like an idiot nor has anyone on the forum. So far so good!

Thanks again to everyone who posted. I feel WAY better about everything.

You will be more than fine. I have regarded that CRK has the best warranty in the business and I stand behind that statement and I have had more than my share of his knives. In total, my CRK buying experience has included 67 knives, from One Piece Knives to Fixed Blades to his Various Folders. I would say, 75% were bought used from the forums and ebay. In acquiring that many knives from one maker, your bound to come across one that is not perfect. Especially one that was pre-owned. To date, I only ever had 2 warranty issues and I will not go into details, but I can tell you that both were fixed for free by CRK. With one of the issues, I had the honor of speaking to Mr. Reeve himself. In both instances, he explained the issue, what caused it, why it happend, and what he was going to do to fix it. All in the upmost Detail. Each call consisted of aprox. 1/2 hour call. He is passionate about his product and stands behind them, even if your not the one that messed it up.

Its this reason alone that has made me realize why buy other brands when CRK already makes the Best, at a Reasonable Price, and has the Best Warranty in the Business. I am pretty much exclusively CRK these days because of these reasons and will continue to be.

I have read nearly all the complaints about what Mr. Reeve said to them or did not say and from my own experience Mr. Reeve, I have come to the conclusion that its pretty much dishonest forum members that have spread the fire....................CRK thoroughly inspects ALL knives before they leave the company. So when someone says they bought a new sebenza and that it has 100% lockup and that the blade tip is broken off, they say they want a new knife.....? First off, more than likely the knife was bought used or they damaged it themselves. So by CRK saying it was not sent to them that way, is that saying CRK is calling them a liar....? I dont think so. I have read tons of stories like this or similar. Then you have people take sebenzas to the edge pro or the like and ruin the edge and then whine that CRK will not give them a new blade.....! Get real people........When I read these, I just chuckle and shake my head. I have worked in production 20+ years and you can always tell when a defect is from the factory, or from the buyer............So for all the negative stories that you have read, know that they are all half truths, nothing more.

Your in good hands and your sebenza will be like new when you get it back. Thats a guarantee.

Nyefmaker you've been a great help from within minutes of this all happening to right now. Thanks again!

And to add quickly to the ever present flicking issue. CRK CLEARLY states that flicking a sebenza will Void the warranty. Then when someone constantly flicks it, develops an issue, then wants it fixed for free.....! CRK says NO because warranty was voided by flicking which they can tell easiy at this point, then its bash CRK time....WTH....!

The sebenza is not a flipper. If you wanna flipper, buy another brand where their knives were made to do so. CRK will not do a flipper as I have already asked. As Mr. Reeve stated to me: Flippers and Slipjoints have been done already and we are looking to the future and new designs, not rehashing the past and what has already been done. Thats pretty much what I was told in so many words. If I want the best flipper around, I will buy a Hinderer. If I want a solid framelock, I will buy a sebenza or umnumzaan.

I still love that slow hydraulic feel of my large regulars when opening them. Its a feel of Quality & Precision. Something you just do see much elsewhere, and all with the best warranty out there.....Period.

Nyefmaker, I know there are some people who try to abuse the warranty and lie about what happened to the knife, I however am one of the unhappy customers that did not abuse a knife but am told I had to for the lock bar to be like that. Its BS!!! An I shouldnt have to pay for a new lock bar when its a faulty lock if it cant function normally without being damaged.

any ways I hope they will make this right, or My damascus safe queen will be my last purchase.

Another point worth mentioning....

Has anyone else considered the possibility that this forum represents only a small portion of the CRK community? That are probably thousands of Sebenza owners all over the world that rarely, if ever, have significant problems with their knives?

It has been my experience in this forum, and many others - including non-knife related forums - that a lot people only start threads when they have a problem and NOT when things are going great. How often do you see someone starting a thread about how much they love their Sebenza and how it has performed admirably for the X amount of years they've owned it?

I actually see it quite frequently but I understand what you are saying

In addition to everything else, I think that because of the quality of CRK and their reputation, when something is wrong it is amplified by our positive preconceptions.

There's a comment ^^^ that I can agree with. One thing, though, is that if you go over to, say, the Spyderco forum, you'll find people going off on rants about slightly off-center blades in $100 knives, so I don't know...maybe we're all just more critical in today's web environment? Dunno, really...

What did you have done if you dont mind me asking.

Got a starbenza, wanted to lock checked, seemed a bit late. Chris inspected it found it was in spec, it was cleaned up nicely washers checked, had a new lanyard added and back in 2 weeks maybe a bit less.

Didn't charge me a thing. Not even return shipping.

sent in a small insingo around the 25 feb, on the 15 march the knife was ready to be send back (expected time was 4-6 weeks.., tool 20 days approx)
email were kind and quick, I assembled the insingo late on an evening and pinched a washer, they replaced it at cost (1,5$ for both washers) without saying more than "send it in and well' do it"

so far, a bit expensive from here (Italy) but worth the little money and time, even got a replacement screw for free for a stripped one on another seb (probably my fault or a soft screw-defective wrench)
 for me
