I'm heading to Maine in June and I need to find a good store to buy some knives. I'm looking for production knives but if you have a custom cutlery store address I'll take it.

If you could manage to swing up to Freeport (maybe 15 miles north) there's the Freeport Knife Company. http://www.freeportknife.com/ Nice store with nice people. Good selection of production knives, might have some custom stuff from local makers. Lots of kitchen wares too. Perhaps best of all, it's right next to a brewpub.

4570, if you have the time, a short run south on I-95 to Kittery and the Kittery Trading Post is well worth the trip! Knives, guns, fishing, camping..........you name it!

Also, while up in Freeport, see LL Bean!

In Portland, have some oysters at J's Oyster House, right on the water, and have a brew or two at Three Dollar Dewey's!

Enjoy your trip to Portland!

Freeport is already on my list so I'll check out the store and the brewpub, and of course LL Bean. I'll try to visit Kittery if I have time. A visit to Cabela's in Scareborough is also planed. Any other good addresses you might suggest? Even outside Portland, because I'll be traveling through the whole state.

Thanks for the replies.
